It's not a 'route' and I wasn't making any judgment about it, I was simply saying it might be relevant in his decision-making for the Aussie Open. Of course, it might not too - that's why I put it as a possibility, and a valid one too, given various other tennis players saying it's benn a factor as part of their choice.

Jay finished the year as GB#6.

In doing so, he was the only singles player, male or female, whose GB ranking stayed the same throughout the year. 48.5% of his points cames from clay tournaments, the most of any of the Top 10 players, making him the 'clay king' of the group.

Jay was also the globetrotter, earning his points from tournaments located in 14 different countries. Just over 50% of his points came from tournaments in 2021, the least amongst the 10 (Kyle excepted).

It's also notable how few of his points come from actually winning tournaments, compared to getting to the semis. If he could reverse those percentages, it would give his rankings a decent boost.

He got a title win this year and we are only in May.

It would appear Jay has been able to snag a coach (Patrick Frandji). Frandji is a former player who has coached Martin, Bedene, Mmoh and has been previous associated with the IMG Academy.

I hope that the relationship progresses and we see more winning ways from Jay.

Jay has posted on Instagram that he was experiencing a lot of pain in his leg during his 1R Wimbledon match and has decided to pull out of Porto next week and do a training block instead.

Jay finished 2022 as GB#8. Here's a breakdown on his year/WR points.

So Jay finished the year with the lowest win rate (45%) amongst the Top10 (and the only below a 50% win rate). This is reflected in the fact he won the fewest matches (22) across the year (for comparison, Andy won the next fewest at 28, but that was from 6 fewer tournaments). Jay did manage to win a title, however he had a Q4 to forgot, winning no matches in that quarter from the 5 tournaments he entered. Q3 was only a little better - 2 wins from 5 tournaments. It does mean he is best placed to add points to his running total (since he has 7 zero point counters), but he is also defending alot of points in January so will undoubtedly be desperate for a change of form.

Edit: So I managed to accidently omit a couple of Jay's tournaments in my original post, which had the effect of making his season look worse than it was. Sorry Jay. Rather than a win rate of 39%, he actually achieved 45%. Sadly it still leaves him with the lowest percentage.

Hi everyone,
I have been struggling with a great deal of pain for
sometime now on and off for about 5 years in my wrist
which has unfortunately gotten worse and started to
impact how I live my day to day life away from tennis.
Along with guidance from my family, sponsors, coaching
team and surgeons I have decided to undergo an
operation to hopefully fix the issue permanently ! This is
a decision that I tried to postpone for a long long time
but recently it's been too much to allow me to compete
at the level where I belong. I will miss the next few
months but i'm confident that this will be a catalyst when
looking back in a few years.

It's a real shame that he left it for so long since his PR won't be very good. However, we all knew something wasn't right for ages and hopefully the operation resolves the issue.
