RE: Boys & Girls: Abierto Juvenil Mexicano, clay - Grade A (Week 46)

Sanford has beautifully classy aggressive ground shots - lots of winners.

But Katie managed to get the break and hang on. *4-3 to her.

it's a good match.

breaks came and went, and then a terribly close tie-break, but Katie comes out the right side, 7-6(6)

Mind you, you wouldn't know that Sandford was 'only' JWR 65 and Katie JWR 6

She's not playing particularly well. Just sort of fighting

Katie won 7-6, 7-6.

Sanford kinda mugged herself; outplaying Katie in the rallies, then putting the coup de grace an inch or two long.

Yes, well done to Katie, but Sanford comes out of that better really.

Katie continues to show amazing composure for a young player - missed match points and then broken to go down 5-6* in the second set, but she didn't let it get to her and came back to take set and match.

Well done Katie; was worried that don't think clay's her best surface whereas it seems to be Sanford's favourite; so very pleased she got through it :D

Watched most of that match. Not the greatest match but Jay and partner deserved it and Jay was certainly very dynamic and into the whole thing.

Mega well done to Jay. Good day so far for the youngsters over there.

Excellent work all around. A singles finalist (at least) and a doubles champion ... GB is well represented.

Wow great result for both Jay and Katie and who would of thought it on clay! Bit of a stark contrast.. Jay is out there with his father and Katie, with the head of women's tennis. For sure someone will take note soon. Clarke will be closing in on the top 10, first one for a good few years. All the very best to Katie in the final tomorrow and good luck to all the GB players next week!!

I assume that is still Iain Bates - not heard much from him recently...

Very well done to them both, Katie's mental strength is one of her finest assets and accounts for a significant proportion of her high rank. Last years AO run to the final was the result of a number of matches where she came from a set and a bit down. Team Jay obviously continuing to do a fabulous job and again the mention of a positive mental attitude and high rank speaks volumes
