Well what an anti climax the race to 20 in 500/ 10 in the top 250 was!

I'm not complaining wink

Certainly don't!  20 in the top 500 is no doubt fairly going to WIN when we see next Monday's list.

Following the 20 in the top 500 & 10 in the top 250 has been real fun over the last couple of years or so and to me doesn't lose anything by this unexpected final development. So celebration time for you!

Yes, absolutely.

It looks like you're going to sneak it by a whisker, Bob

And it's one of those ultra feel-good moments - everyone's pleased - Jaggy will be pleased - we all want more GB tennis players doing well - if we've got 20 in the top-500 and 9 in the top-250, that's just super (in fact, we've almost for 9 in the top-200)

it's smiles all round as far as I'm concerned

Whilst I do agree it is all good; I am very keen to understand more around Oliver Crawford and his move. He comes into the country ranked around 200, top 9 in the UK. And battling for slam places by being in qualies. He is going to be ranked around Jan, Ryan, Billy, Arthur level, and is still quite young at 24.

Is he planning to be based in GB, is he going to be battling for wild card places in the GB Challengers in the next couple of months that are planned, presumably not the M25 events, and will he be giving the grass a go and looking at wildcards for the grass challengers as well? And Wimbledon qualies and main draw?

None of those are problems, just interested to see where this goes and if he assimilates into British tennis?

Not seen if any of the press or other players have commented, welcomed him etc - how well known is he by the other British players and the tennis press over here?

All quite interesting and positive for me, just keen to see what happens?!

I would assume he definitely has his sights set on Wimbledon, wildcards into ATP events, challengers, whatever

And perfectly reasonable - he has a career to try and fund

In terms of Grand Slams and ATP events, the US is better off than the UK, obviously.

But it's a big pool out there

He'll be a bigger fish in a smaller pond here

It does feel a bit deus ex machina.

I dont mean to burst a bubble and all that but I think we might still be at 19 on Monday. Live-tennis.eu has Alastair inside the top 500 but the ATP live site has him outside. I think the lowering of points(for challenger events) on livetennis.eu hasnt happened yet.

Those points didnt change, the ATP site just seem incapable of also adding the qualifying points on. Although live-tennis.eu is still adding on old points as I noticed it was giving 50 for a ch75 doubles final and not 44.

It's a wonderfully British quali draw for the men in Loughborough

Far more so than the women's event next week - qualis will be a real struggle there

It's a very special thing, being one of the 20 in the top 500.

He maybe wants to protect his position there for a while longer

Jake Fearnley is knocking on the door. Will be either on 66pts or 75pts dependant on tomorrow's result.

WooHoo. Today is a red letter day. 20 in the Top 500 is officially achieved. It's been a long time coming but we have finally made it.

Time to celebrate.

Drinks are on ..... well, Jaggy actually.

Has anyone seen him around these last few days ?   He has been conspicuous by his absence. smile

Going back the first few posts in this thread we had 13 in the top 500 8 and a bit years ago And 11 countries had more than us. I wonder were we sit now in terms of number of players in the top 500 compared to others.

A quick look suggests 7: USA, France, Spain, Italy, Australia, Germany and Argentina. For all the doom and gloom in France which CD regularly reports on they still have easily the most with 51.
