Quite possibly my first ever post in the Junior's section. But following a tweet from a very proud father wink I can report that having got in as a LL, Matt Beecher's victory in R1 was his first ever MD victory at this level.

Go Matty.

Hadn't made the connection

But one of the reasons I put the lower junior events up is that a parent of one of the kids once said the girl was really thrilled to see her name, and her victory, on the forum - I don;t think it was because she thought this forum was SO amazing, but the girl had done a Google search for her name - as one does, seemingly - and was just thrilled that her victory had been recorded and 'made the news', here, if nowhere else.

So, why not, and good luck to 'em all !

A nice sentiment, you and DavidC both do a great job with the junior section so cheers to you guys.

Good effort by Freddie but not to be:

R3: Michael COPELAND (RSA) [2] 6-3 5-7 6-1 Freddie GRANT (GBR)

And Olivia too. But at least Eliz comes through:

2nd Round

Nicole PETCHEY (RSA) [1] 6-4 6-4 Olivia ELLIOTT (GBR)

Eliz MALONEY (GBR) [2] 6-1 6-0 Makayla LOUBSER (RSA)

Great for the kids and their families, also great to see the progress they make.

And on the subject of tennis fathers, Nicole is the daughter of our own Mark Petchey (and quite a nice tennis player as well).

Another win for Eliz:

Quarterfinal:

Eliz MALONEY (GBR) [2] 6-1 6-1 Mila HARTIG (RSA) [5]

In the doubles, Eliz and Olivia won their R1 match but lost out in the next one to Nicole Petchey (see The O's comment above) and her partner. It's small world, tennis

I wonder why Nicole has elected to play for SA?

That makes sense

Eliz won very easily, again:

Semifinal

Eliz MALONEY (GBR) [2] def. Maxine BATEMAN (RSA) [3] 6-3 6-1

and will now play Mark Petchey's daughter in the final.

Oops, I wondered when I saw that result this morning whether Nicole was Mark Petchey's daughter (remembering that he had S African links) and only just got around to checking (I found an interview with her and her sister - bit.ly/npetchey) - I should have realised that if she was, someone here would already have pointed it out! LOL

There are lots of pictures from the Final (and earlier rounds) on this Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/CaylixSport?lang=en-gb

In their last tweet, they give the scoreline as 6-7 6-2 6-2 but it's clear from earlier tweets that the tiebreak was in the 2nd set.
