today both matches go to doubles deciders - if Columbia beat Japan and GB beat Canada, then one of the winners tomorrow will win the group. How that is decided I don't know....
Exciting stuff, still in with a chance. I think yesterday's choices were fine given the remit is development and winning, important to get Ali playing as she will undoubtdly be leading next year.
If there are two tied teams it goes on head 2 head result
If there tied teams it goes on matches won, followed by percentage of sets won followed by percentage of games won

Hmm, and will they go all out to win it next year or will Ali say sit out to develop someone else ?
I understand, especially if that's the remit, but there's also an argument for right here, right now, try your best to win a fairly prestigious tournament.

I'm afraid that as soon as I read that yesterday 'former player Jeremy Bates, the LTAs head coach of womens tennis .. was on-site watching the match', I thought, bad luck girls - that's an omen of doom if ever there was one.
And when it said Ali spent most of the match in tears, I thought, yes, well anybody would be with sourpuss Jeremy sitting looking on.....
So good luck to them in the third set, and good luck to them vis-a-vis paulisi's permutations - would be lovely if they could still make it through, despite . . . .

"Developing" Ali that losing can hurt ?!
Maybe integating her, but not putting so much on her shoulders, and yes again select and play to win the tournament might really be the best idea.
But hey no, rest Katy with her much bigger time experience, throw in Ali and it looks like she has felt very responsible.

But if you are going to give Ali the opportunity to play singles in the group stage it was probably going to be in the #2 spot vs. Japan based on rankings (which is really the only measure to go by, if still unreliable). So I am still okay with the decision.
