Girls: Junior Fed Cup finals, Spain, clay - Grade C (Week 39)

Madrid's Caja Magica is the venue for this year's Junior Fed Cup finals. Although we only scraped in to the final 16, the addition of Katie Swan (joining Jodie Burrage and Ali Collins, under the captaincy of Lucie Ahl) has given us a seeding. There are 4 groups of 4, though I can't find the draw at present. All teams start tomorrow with live streaming available via http://www.tennisjuniortv.com/eng_index.asp  Matches on both Centre Courts, Courts 4 and 5 will be streamed. I guess the oop will be available on the ITF Juniors website eventually

Should be very interesting, I like the balance of our team. Good to see Ali with a rank suggesting she should be pretty competitive against all the other players except the Canadians and of course they are there for the taking!

Well Katie's just had a nice week already in Madrid, albeit on hard. And given Madrid is at slight altitude all the better.

You"ed think some folk planned their schedules

I can't say I've seen any controversial tournament selections, all seems really sensible I know I am easily impressed but .....

Not a bad draw on reflection, although Canada strong on paper the other seeds even stronger and of course it's played on clay!

Yes, and (at risk of setting things up badly), I'd say Ms Burrage is perhaps quite a bit stronger than her ITF ranking suggests.

Really nice picture of the team on the ITF Junior Facebook page.  Tried to post a link but for some reason totally unsuccessful.  Anyway, at the mo, the picture is only a couple of posts down from the top.

C'mon Ali, it's high time Dunblane pulled its finger out and contributed to some team tennis competitions.

I assume it is two singles and a doubles match.

I'm slightly surprised Ali Collins got the other singles slot.

Ali lost 0-6 6-1 3-6

Does anyone know the format of this event? Is it top team only from each group the semi-finals or top two into Quarter Finals?

Either way (and even more so after the first match) Katie will need to win a lot of matches this week.

There are points for QF, so I assume it will be top 2, but very little on ITF site

Yes, they haven't made it easy to follow but your research got a bit further than mine. The tournament is scheduled for 6 days so there is definitely scope for quarter finals but it might be a case of finding out as it goes along.
