Other events - week 35

Re the other events around the world  (with GB interest):

In the G5 in Bucharest:

R1:

Tudor DIACONU (ROU)     7-6(3) 7-6(3)     Zeki HOROZ (GBR)

the boys, playing together, won their first round doubles match too

In Argentina (G5), another counter to add to her first one last week:

R1:

Kelly ARAUJO (GBR)     6-1 6-2     Lucia ZAPATA (ARG)

In the G5 in Switzerland, a 'shock' defeat for our GB U14 national champ but Hannah came through:

R2:

Henry VON DER SCHULENBURG (SUI)     6-4 6-4     Anton MATUSEVICH (GBR) [9]

R2:

Hannah DAVIES (GBR) [16]     6-2 6-3     Jolina Barbara FEGER (GER)

Lily Reynolds is also playing out in Chile

Lily couldn't keep the good run going from last week and lost in the first round in Chile.

Kelly also lost her second round match in Argentina, against the third seed.

In the G5 in Switzerland, seeding logic was also followed, with Hannah losing to the top seed, but with a decent score:

3rd Round

Medina SAHINAGIC (SUI) [1] 7-5 6-4 Hannah DAVIES (GBR) [16]

Max Benaim got his second win in Romania and, along with Zeki, also won their doubles today.

R2:
Max BENAIM (GBR) [4] def. Ioan Luca VIDAN (ROU) 6-1 6-3

In Switzerland, Hannah+ won her doubles but Anton's disappointing week continued.

In Romania, it's the end of the road as Max lost his singles in the QF, and the doubles (with Zeki) in the semi-final.

In Switzerland, Hannah+ lost in the quarters.

Big apologies to the Martin twins, Destinee and Essence, who were playing in Benin G4 last week and didn't get mentioned.

Destinee made the semis, beating the 2nd seed along the way.

And Essence made the quarters, beating the 7th seed.

The girls, age 14, have had a lot of attention, largely because the media likes their slight similarity to the Williams sisters' story (their father - and coach - is a charismatic, self-taught guy who knows nothing as such about tennis and doesn't believe in too much competition but seems to be doing a pretty good job).

Anyway, they're in Togo this week so good luck to them there too.

And congrats on their first ITF ranking points
