There are two hardcourt G1 events before the US Open - this being the first. Katie Swan and Emily Arbuthnott are scheduled for the Canadian G1 starting on Sunday.
I heard on the grapevine (so apologies if wrong) that Ryan has gone out to the States on his own, no coach and no parents.
I think that's great for his personal development / independence etc.
But can't help wondering what the LTA are up to if they aren't even accompanying and providing support for one of their top young prospects, going to a couple of the top tournaments of the year . . .
But now gets the top seed, 16 year-old Kalinskaya, JWR 12, ex JWR 4, WTA 824 and Roland Garros Juniors Finalist - although she had a nightmare on grass when she came to the UK this summer . . .
A solid week for Maia. Anyone know her future plans? She's only played one senior event this year (and not many last year), and I haven't heard that she's planning on going stateside...
For the last 18-24 months, Maia has been based both at Sven Groeneveld's academy in Amsterdam and the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida (Nick Bolletieri).
Supposedly she is trying to add power to her game at the moment.
Was just thinking that Maia and Gabi Taylor seem to have gone off the radar a bit. Gabi through hardly playing at all this year (apparently injured up unyil the grass season ) and Maia for hardly venturing near seniors.
After previous coverage of them both, say a year or two ago, it was interesting that in another thread speculating on possible GB top 500 players in the upcoming few years, we came up with 21 names amongst us, counting the ones already currently top 500, and Maia and Gabi didn't get a mention. I must admit that I didn't even think of them at the time and they are players I have been following to varying degrees.
Still plenty of time on their sides and promising to hear about the places Maia is working and that she is trying to add power to her game.
