Federer wins 4&6. Once again Murray didn't create a single break point.

When's he going to remember how to return against this guy?

Andy was beating him at one point. I just hope that he can do it again.
I'm not too worried really, Andy was pretty tired coming into this and Fed just took advantage of it. Andy will now have one day more to rest and hopefully Smug and Novak will have a classic tomorrow.

Not exactly unexpected, I'm just pleased for Andy that he made it so close despite all the tennis he has played in the last few weeks. I think he could take Fed in a Bo5 - maybe at the USO, who knows. Now I suppose I have to support Novak tomorrow so Andy stays at #2. It goes very much against the grain, but I'll try. Come on No. . .Nov....Nova.....Novak. There. I did it.

Once again great fortitude from Andy to find another gear at the end there even though, clearly, running on fumes again; no doubt Andy will did deep in his resolve again next up to avoid anything like the O2 outcome...

Considerably better than O2 smile

Small margins...Fed acknowledged (although the commentary team didn't) that the point to set up MP was a fluke...if Andy had edged that set who knows? Ah well, on to Flushing Meadow...

And yes, c'mon Nole wink

Roger beat Novak 7-6(1) 6-3 in the final.

So he reclaims the WR 2 spot from Andy and will be seeded 2 for the US Open.

There remains, of course, a 50% chance that Andy and Roger are drawn in the same half and thus it effectively making no odds since they will also have the same chances of drawing everyone else.

The one difference though is that Andy now has a 50% chance of being in Novak's half. Roger won't be.

The theoretical SFs if the players match their seedings will be either

(1) Djokovic vs (3) Murray

(4) Nishikori vs (2) Federer

or

(1) Djokovic vs (4) Nishikori

(3) Murray vs (2) Federer

PS : presumes Nishikori will be fit, having pulled out of Cincinnati I understand just as a precaution  If not, the number 4 seed would be Stan.

At the moment, it doesn't look as though Fed will worry about who is in his half. Though of course, 5 setters may not be so easy for him (she said hopefully)

Well Cincinnati is near Roger's perfect hard court. US Open will be a completely different affair in terms of Bo5 and a slower court meaning longer matches (no storming returns, mostly).
