Week 4 in Southern Africa for Luke Hammond and Jack Burkill, looking to maintain their winning run. Alastair Gray has been demoted to third seed, by the arrival of a couple of higher ranked South Africans (one won the first tournament 3 weeks ago) and could meet his conqueror from last week in round 3
(10) Michael Copeland (RSA) v Luke Purser
(3) Alastair Gray v Cameron Petersen (RSA)
(Q) Gauthier Onclin (BEL) v (9) Luke Hammond
(16) Jack Burkill v (Q) Danilson Bento (ANG)
Unfortunately Luke Purser and Alistair Gray lost today. Didn't see it but surprised Alistair lost to a guy Hammond duffed up last week. Luke Hammond and Jack Burkill won singles and doubles.
Luke Purser lost doubles with different partner. Alistair decided not to play doubles this week.
As it turned out a heavy defeat for Alastair. Jack plays the South African who beat Luke and himself en route to the Johannesburg title 3 weeks ago
R2
(10) Michael Copeland (RSA) d. Luke Purser 7-5 6-3
Cameron Petersen (RSA) d. (3) Alastair Gray 6-1 6-1
(9) Luke Hammond d. (Q) Gauthier Onclin (BEL) 6-3 6-0
(16) Jack Burkill d. (Q) Danilson Bento (ANG) 6-3 6-3
R3
(6) Timothy Dollman (RSA) v (9) Luke Hammond
(16) Jack Burkill v (2) Calvin Jordaan (RSA)
Success in singles for Luke, through to play a Kenyan who he beat comfortably last week, but the South African top seeds ended Luke & Jack's long unbeaten doubles run
Luke repeats his success over the Kenyan and makes a third successive final. The opposition this time though appears stronger than in the last 2 finals. Top seed Damon Kesaris is also on a 14 match winning streak and has been untroubled here
SF
(9) Luke Hammond d. (12) Kevin Cheruiyot (KEN) 6-4 6-0
Luke ( @nanaamdpapa ) has tweeted "Good to end the trip with another singles title. And finally going home" with picture No score as yet, but well done Luke (+ Jack) and thanks to Matt for the extra background info
Yep Luke is a REALLY tall bloke. Six foot six to be exact. He gets asked a lot!
Cracking final today. Under time pressure due to flight....Luke managed to sneak the second set and saving it from going to a third. Opponent not happy with a few lines calls including match point....match balls ended up out of the tennis club.
Awesome few weeks for Team Millfield. From two girls getting their first points to the six titles we're bringing back.
