As usual we have a quartet in Moscow for the European Championships. Seedings are often misleading, being based primarily on Tennis Europe rankings rather than ITF
Both Jake and Jack won, but Jake faces a strong Russian in the ITF top 100 already. Jodie added to today's success and appears to have a round 3 match offering a good chance of progress.
Boys R1 (L128)
Jake Hersey v Joao Antonio (POR) 3-6 6-2 6-4
R2
Jack Molloy d. Zura Tkemaladze (GEO) 6-2 6-0
(8) Artem Dubrivnyy (RUS) v Jake Hersey
Girls R2 (L64)
(15) Jodie Anna Burrage d. Zinovia Vaneva (BUL) 7-6(2) 6-2
Maryna Chernysova (UKR) v (3) Francesca Jones
Jake unsurprisingly found the Russian too strong, but Fran maintained her winning streak. Jodie's chances of a good run may have been enhanced by the surprise defeat of top seed Olesya Pervushina (the girl who beat Freya Christie at Wimbledon, and the first seed Jodie was scheduled to meet). Fran has a more testing looking round 3 against a higher ranked (ITF) player who was a G2 finalist recently.
