Much 'twittering' about the fact that the LTA's new document, Tennis for Britain, Vision 2019-2023, does not have one mention of Andy Murray, nor one picture.
@stu_fraser
"Andy Murray said in January that he believed the LTA had failed to capitalise on his achievements and legacy.
In this document released by the LTA today on their vision for tennis, there is not a single mention or picture of Murray in 36 pages."
"The LTA has come under fierce criticism after a document issued as part of a rebrand did not include any reference to Andy Murray, the three-times grand-slam champion regarded as Great Britains best player of all time.
The 36-page publication released last Friday to outline the new vision of the governing body of British tennis does not have a single mention or picture of Murray. There is no footage of him or his brother Jamie, the six-times grand-slam doubles champion, in a 44-second video that features five other players."
From Stuart Fraser (the Times tennis guy)
"Fierce criticism for the LTA after they fail to include any reference to Andy Murray in a 36-page document issued as part of a rebrand. And brother Jamie says it's "f***ing annoying" that the opportunity to build a legacy in Scotland is being missed."
The reality is that 55% of tennis court stock in the UK is held by tennis clubs...clubs are horribly tough to work with and archaic. This latest LTA strategy however is another load of buzz words with nothing really of action. Whilst a new strategy has been released, no one within the LTA has changed, it's the same people pushing a rebrand of something we've all seen before.
Recently the LTA had been using "British Tennis" to describe itself, surely more relevant than The Lawn Tennis Association. Going back to the LTA does now seem strange, as pointed out in the telegraph. There's nothing of any substance in the 36 page brochure. There's no meat on the bones of how they are going to open up tennis. A lot of their programmes/initiatives are great, but rebrands and new strategies just get absolutely bashed in the press. People are tired of them saying and not doing.
I noticed that LTA (now branding as LTA - Tennis for Britain) has tidied up the tournaments section of their website and Glasgow Challenger has now been taken off completely after staying up there (Loughborough was taken off sometime back) with a September date. So it looks like we are sticking with the 3 grass court challenger level events in Surbiton (men and women), Nottingham (men only), Manchester (women only) and Ilkley (men and women).
the Futures/ITF level events still dont show anything beyond the April events in Bolton and Sunderland, but presumably they will be planning some events for September/October period?
