RE: Girls: 2015 European Summer Cups - U12/U14/U16/U18

The under 16s did quite well, but couldn't get the win, so will have to beat Belarus (unsurprisingly defeated by the unseeded Russians, albeit they have two top 25 players rather than top 10 - those are playing for the under18s) to qualify for the Fed Cup. The under 18s have lost their quarter-final to the seeded Hungarians (doubles to be played) so will have to play for the minor places.

U16 QF

GBR 1 Spain 2

Jodie beat Noelia Bouzo Zanotti 6-2 6-4
Fran lost to Eva Guerrero Alvarez 0-6 6-2 1-6
Georgie/Jodie lost to Noelia/Eva 5-7 5-7

U18 QF

(4)Hungary 2 GBR 0

Rebeka Stolmar d. Maia Lumsden 6-2 7-5
Anna Bondar d. Emily Arbuthnott 7-5 6-4

Excellent news as the under 16s beat Belarus to qualify for the Junior Fed Cup, to be held in the Caja Magica, Madrid in September. They ended up 6th, but qualify along with winners Czech Republic (who included world number 1 Marketa Vondrousova), Russia, Spain, Netherlands and Italy

U16 5-6 play-off

The under 18s finished 5th after a 2-1 win over Slovakia (aided by Australian Open champion Tereza Mihalikova retiring 5-2 down against Emily) and a comfortable 3-0 victory today against Spain (wins for Ema and Emily singly and in combination)

The under 12 finals started today and the girls managed a 2-1 win over Ukraine in their first group match. Ukraine are strong (beat us, including Holly, in the Winter Cup final, with the same team) but we got lucky when their number 1 retired 4-5 down to Kylie. Kylie/Tiana went on to win the doubles, after Amelia was well beaten in the first singles. They play Italy tomorrow

The under 12s lost 2-1 to Italy, despite a 6-1 6-4 win for Kylie That means all 4 countries in the group have won 1 match, so to win the group we need to beat Turkey today and hope that Ukraine beat Italy

Kylie has just lost an epic battle with the Turkish number 1 7-5 in the third, following a 3 set defeat for Amelia. That means we lose to Turkey, and will have to play for a minor place tomorrow

The girls finished 7th after a comprehensive 3-0 win over the Czech Republic (Tiana came in to the singles and won in 3, Kylie won in 2, and Kylie/Amelia took the doubles). Ukraine won the trophy to add to the Winter Cup
