So close for Heather, just needed some better serves at those key times. Serena was there for the taking and looked very nervous although she came up with some good shots at the end. I do think this is a missed opportunity especially when she had points to go 4-0 up as well as points to go 4-2. The biggest disappointment was the lack of class shown by Serena Williams who couldn't even be bothered to stop and sign some autographs at the end, both she and her sister have a habit of doing this. For this reason I hope that neither win , who do they think they are just blanking the fans like this.
Stressful. Heather competed well and came so close to winning. Serena played well in patches, badly by her standards in other patches but that was partly because she was flustered by Heather and the crowd.
Gutsy performance and what a shame she couldn't finish it-I agree with some of the above posters who say it's a missed opportunity; she should go away and rue those missed chances and vow she'll never succumb to them again; she'll only get better from this.
She couldn't have been helped by Serena's theatrics though which were bordering on farce.
A great shame and one that got away; who'd have thought we'd been disappointed that she lost and could/should've won?
great performance by Heather Serena has very poor movement on court and Heather exposed that. Agree Serena showed no grace walking off court without signing an autograph , I am rooting for Venus to beat her
Madly busy evening, but just had to show my face here and say I am so very very proud of Heather. Wow if she could play like that week in, week out!
Serena may be a great champion, but I don't like her on-court behaviour and it spoke volumes that Heather stayed to sign some autographs and Serena didn't.
Hope Heather isn't too disappointed. She has much to be proud of and to look forward to achieving.
We love you Hev!!!!
Just got to the computer, having had so many necessary chores to do once Heather's match finished. Absolutely heart-broken that she couldn't quite get over the edge, especially when she had been two breaks up in the decider. She seemed to me to tire a bit in the middle of the decider, then picked it up again, but too late. Taking Serena so close was absolutely magnificent and should spur her on to take that sort of performance to lesser players. Onwards and upwards!
What a cracking game, serena all power but imperfect, Hev scurrying and shot making. I haven't seen Hev take it to her opponent in that way before, it should give her the confidence to go again on the hard courts during the summer. Kids scurried off to practice volleying in the field afterwards so I would say that was a win for British tennis.
Having thought Serena was a particularly bad match-up for Hev and that she'd be lucky to avoid bakery products, I was stunned when she managed to win the 2nd set and when she was 3-0 up in the 3rd, I started to believe she was actually going to win. I think the 4th game of the 3rd set probably decided it (Hev had Serena so rattled by then that I think she'd have won from 4-0 without too much trouble) but the fact that she managed to break again even after Serena had got both breaks back shows how much character she has - most players outside the top 20 would have mentally thrown in the towel against Serena at that point. A pity she couldn't finish her off but higher-ranked players than Hev have failed to do that on many occasions.
Hev certainly showed what she is capable of today and if she can find a way to play like that more often, I don't see why she shouldn't aim to be top 10 one day.

Brilliant brilliant stuff from Heather today; so close to a magnificent win: Serena was on the ropes and if Heather had held for 4-0 it would've been her match surely; so brave to break again for 5-4 and get within 2 points of victory; Heather is surely going to take huge self-belief from today and head up the rankings strongly. Go, Heather :)
