4 Brits are in the one qualifying round tomorrow at Surbiton, hoping to join Katie Swan, Maia Lumsden, Emily Arbuthnott and some wildcards in the main draw. Emily, Freya Christie and Ali Collins were part of the under 18 team which has been taking part in the Grand Slam Nations Challenge this week at Eastbourne. They started well against France, lost narrowly to USA in the Maureen Connolly Trophy and played Australia today, who were the overall winners (don't know the score today).
Freya is listed among the wildcards along with Gabi Taylor, Ema Lazic, Georgina Axon , Eden Richardson and Anna Brogan. Anastasia Mikheeva and Jodie Burrage were originally nominated for wildcards, but they appear to have withdrawn, so I imagine that Ali will take the place of one of them.

(1) Ioana Diana Pietriou (ROU) v (14) Jasmine Amber Asghar
(4) Yue Yuan (CHN) v (15/WC) Lauryn John-Baptiste
(5) Ludmila Samsonova (ITA) v (16/WC) Emily Appleton
Don't understand, David - Lauryn JB is also playing in the British Tour event at North Oxford this week (as was Emily A who lost in three sets today to Lucy).
But Lauryn won and is due to play tomorrow at 11.
What is it with our girls? Can't they decide what to enter and then just concentrate on that?
It often gets complicated at this time of year because there are so many events which juniors could be involved in that overlap, including the Maureen Connolly Trophy (I gather that Jodie and Anna were the other team members), pro events (including Wimbledon qualifying), British Tour and exhibitions. I guess in this case that Lauryn wasn't confident of being invited to Roehampton qualifying, with only 2 wildcards available and a cut likely to be just outside 100 (it dropped, allowing Holly and Jasmine in), but she was offered a late chance because of withdrawals. Also among the qualifiers is former world number 3 Tornado Black, who has had a series of retirements and gaps in her (pro) tournament schedule in the past 9 months.

Maia, Anna and Jodie are on court now. All went down early breaks but recovered them. Anna has just lost the opening set 6-4 but the other two are in tiebreaks. Live scores below:
Thanks for that, I'm only 25 mins away but bit of was rated journey it seems as play suspended, rain coming down quite hard. Saw Brogan go down 6-4 6-0 and Maia should have wrapped up match at 5-4, 40-0 in 2nd set before throwing it away with a fault and a wild backhand drive volley. Went on to lose 2nd set 5-7 before coming off for rain. Gabi Taylor was 1-0 down first set on adjacent court.
was hopeful of done enjoyable tennis today as Katie swan, Gabi and Eden are all in adjacent courts. Not to be it seems
Maia finally makes it over the line courtesy of another tiebreak. Katie appears to be in a hurry now the rain has abated up 6-1 2-0. Gabi is a set down and Emily's match has frozen with her leading in the decider
