Agree re Andy, that we are priviledged to have him, and apart from his huge achievements he is an increasingly really fine ambassador.

But oh that there was much more to be positive about with regards to "British Tennis" in general, crowds away from such as Wimbledon and Queen's ( generally main courts always were full there anyway ), and general tennis participations( dropping to the wrath and funding cuts from UK Sport ).

Most folk on the forum wish much of that and also more players following through at all levels was so much better.

We 'chew the cud' over all this and much more, indicated by some thread titles, discussing and debating what could be done better with the occcasinal good soul taking active steps re such as participation and competition.

I participated last night. Have to say British tennis is in a right state, slightly eccentric in general with bad backhands all round. The all round excellence of Mr Murray in contrast is letting the rest of us down, although the on court vocabulary was typical.

Looking forward to watching and enjoying the talents of the best British tennis player of the modern era for a good few years yet and I agree we are lucky to have him.

Things could be much worse imagine having numerous professional academies, at least 120 educational institutions with elite tennis programmes sponsored by boosters free to top junior players, a national tour with two or three futures tournaments and a challenge almost every week that has generated only a bean poll with a monster serve on the men's side. Now that would be worth moaning about.

Don't know of a forum but ZooTennis does pretty comprehensive reporting of US junior, college and sub tour level tennis.

The US return has been very poor in recent years, but they currently do have a very good looking batch of juniors. Admittedly they are as yet unproven as seniors, but it will be interesting to follow their progress.

British tennis though in general clearly lags the other big European nations - Germany, France, Spain and Italy. Some of this is cultural and other national sporting priorities, but also successive British tennis authorities have had their failings.
