I was just reading an article about Boris final hours by Andrew Pierce (yes, I know, Daily Mail). The thing that struck me was an initial photo of the cabinet meeting earlier this week. It was hard to tell, but I counted 24 people around the table. All with jackets on by the way.

Two things struck me

1) 24 people - at what is effectively a Board meeting? Surely that makes no sense in terms of governance? What is the point of 24 people attending that? Surely a reorganisation of Government structures so that 16 of the 24 sit under a top 8 in some sort of pyramid structure would be more effective? Or less ministries regarded as cabinet level? No corporation would have a Board of 24 and expect to make quick, effective decisions

2) why do they all wear suits and ties all the time - why do they go on TV (and MP's generally) and always wear a suit and tie - even on Sunday's? It is not with the times and makes them look out of touch. Drop the suit and tie at all times on TV look, and drop the jacket at meetings!

Boris is rarely in a suit and tie

He's always got a builder's yellow hard hat, or a white lab coat and goggles, or a high-viz construction worker vest

It's like a five year-old with a fixation for dress-up

Being reported that Nadine Dorries is 'seriously considering' running to be the next PM.

Somebody please stop this world from spinning so that I can get off.

There is talk of 15 contenders declaring for Tory leadership and somehow running the MPs whittling process over a week to complete it by the 21st when the summer recess begins, with the two contenders left then having august to try
And win the members vote.

The first part of the process sounds tight but getting it all done by end august sounds good.

Yes, it looks as if they will cut the contenders down initially by upping the number of nominating MPs required to even reach the starting blocks from 10 to a fair bit higher, possibly as many as 35.

It's again disappointing to see the number of grandstanders around, no chance at all of winning but hey look at me.

Presumably a nominating MP can only nominate once in this process and or could they nominate several people?!

Here is an interesting turn up.

Nş10 reporting that Johnson is think of running in the leadership elections. Tory rules state that the resigning leader cannot run in the subsequent vote. But as some have pointed out, Johnson agreed to allow a leadership election in his speech but nowhere did he actually say the words 'I resign'.

Curiouser and curiouser.

From Petronella Wyatt, former Dep Editor of the Spectator among other roles.

It is obviously enough of a rumour to get Sam Coates from Sky investigating and explaining the legalities.  See this thread.
