I don't think she approaches tennis in a statistically responsible way, loosing first sets etc... Just seems to focus on getting it done. I'm sure the stats will sort themselves once she realizes there is an easier way. But generally she is making a decent fist playing quality opposition who have given trouble in the past.
Plays Jil Teichmann, formerly JR3, Swiss Miss, in R3, for a place in the QFs, to face presumably Bellis.
Gets 75 points, to replace a bottom score of 60; and overtakes Robillard-Millette in the Junior rankings, presuming they reach the same round. Provisionally, then, Katie JR5.
A win in the first round of doubles would also be a counting score - 45 points to replace 20.
Kenin, her doubles partner, lost in singles R1. So with Katie playing for 2 hours, 48 minutes yesterday, Kenin better do any running about that's needed. (Though their R1 match looks very easy on previous form - so hopefully just a nice relaxing warm-down tomorrow, with little running about required.)
Emily is first on court 5 (again) tomorrow against an Argentinian who has gained impressive results in the Americas, including a GA final, but played little in Europe. However she did come over in May for a couple of $10Ks (semi and quarters) propelling her into the WTA top 600
Katie finally plays her round 1 doubles fourth on court 16. Her round 3 opponent is also just outside the WTA top 500, beat Amanda Carreras last week, and has a much stronger clay court record than either of her previous opponents
R2
(8) Katie Swan d. Katherine Sebov (CAN) 7-5 7-5
Emily Arbuthnott v (15) Julieta Lara Estable (ARG)
Adds a net 45 points to her ranking tally, to rise to a new CH of around JR40, a point or two ahead of CiCi Bellis. Unless Maia were to reach the doubles final, Emily will now be the second-ranked UK junior on Monday. Her best two performances of the year in consecutive weeks...
Will Emily Arbuthnott beat Junior World Ranked No1?
Answer probably comes tomorrow, when she looks likely to face Vonrousova for a place in the QFs.
