RE: Week 18 - ATP Masters 1000 (Mutua Madrileña Open) - Madrid - red clay

Oops, I'm all light headed and carried away.

Andy will just have to win a third Slam title pronto now. Strikes me as less hastle then me editing my post

PS : SC, thanks for drawing my attention to that and I love your euphemistic confused smilies when you know folk have made a **** up.

It's going to be well after midnight local time. I'm going to have to go to bed now, I'll take my tablet up, but I'll never stay awake for the whole match.

If Andy wins and thereby covers the points he is defending, he should pull a sickie and prepare for Rome. If he loses he can go and prepare for Rome anyway.

Sorry to bring this up Madeline, but not pulling a sickie may have proved to be one of Andy's better decisions ;)

Great stuff, really what a couple of weeks, Rafa was shocking and of course no Novak BUTTT this is by far his best ever clay court run on any basis, just got to keep it up at the FO, for which he is now 10/1, 20/1 a week ago.

You were of course referring to his junior US open win as the third slam right wink

I just realised that Madrid by itself, never mind Munich, has more than covered Andy's clay court season points from last year and that included a French Open SF.

2014 : Madrid 90 + Rome 180 + Roland Garros 720 = 990

It was especially sweet that the tree-mug trophy was presented by the Spanish Queen. I bet when the organisers arranged that, they were confident it would be Rafa on the receiving end. She did it very graciously, anyway.

The "Tree-Mug" trophy as actually a stack of tennis rackets.  The frame of each racket goes around the central column and the bits sticking out are the racket handles arranged in a spiral.  Mind you, I prefer "Tree-Mug", it sounds better.

Nothing will ever beat the then Australian PM's face when presenting medals and trophy to the England Rugby Union World Cup winning team

Put it this way, he looked less happy than when Nelson Mandela presented South Africa with the trophy eight years earlier.
