I too did wonder about motivation especially after her foray into senior tournaments but Katie is doing well.
As she said in her article pressure on her but I do think she has the character to cope with any setbacks. She knows where her goal is and its just a case of getting there.
Having never seen her play purely monitored her recent results, motivation doesn't seem to be a problem. The pattern of recovering from adversity in the Aussie Open I think was more a question of nerves and confidence in her own ability. She strikes me as someone who is innately good at engaging in self assessment but with a tendency to underscore her performance.
We saw a similar pattern in the tournaments leading upto and including her ITF win in Eygypt, oh dear this is a step up! Am I good enough? Perhaps? Er yes! ITF tittle. Obviously nothing is a given but in an environment where she knows she can be successful I think she is more likely to perform well from the outset.
Regardless of the outcome with all the players in development her family and coaches will be reassuring her that it is her incremental improvement over the whole year that matters and she is in the words of Paul Lambert doing fine.
Fingers crossed for the rest of the tournament I hope she thoroughly enjoys it along with her training block in California.
There is a real chance that Katie could move into the top 5 very soon (Assuming she can defend her points here), Xu, Bellis, Kasatkina and Bouzkova seem to have given up playing junior events and concentrating on main tour.
I'd expect Katie to do similar, although a mix of events this year and then a full go at the tour next season.
Katie was quite shrewd getting in those 3 senior tournaments just before her 16th birthday as it now means she can play a full quota of 12 ? between her 16th and 17th birthdays. Everything going very smoothly at the moment, long may that continue.
(Q) Amanda Anisimova (USA) lost to (2) Katie Swan 2-6 3-6
R2 (L32)
(2) Katie Swan beat Morgan Coppic(USA) (WC) 6-1 6-0
R3 (L16)
(2) Katie Swan v Meible Chi (USA)
Katie plays her L16 match and doubles QF later today - Meible Chi has been playing grade 4 and is WR 537, so looks a good chance for Katie to progress even further
Any streams for this event? Or am I asking too much LOL
I think if I recall properly there was a short highlights package of the final last year as it was the first time we had seen Katie play.
Stream at www.easterbowl.com. Only three courts streamed though, so a bit random who you get. Strong chance it will be two (or four) Americans on court most of the time......

Looks like Katie is on one of the streamed courts not before 1330 local time (according to the oop). I think that is 2130 for us in the UK
