Boys & Girls: IX ITF Junior Benicarlo, Spain, clay - Grade 2 (Week 13)


Emily Arbuthnott returns to junior action for the first time since the Australian Open and faces a familiar opponent, one who accounted for Fran Jones and Ali Collins in Scandinavian tournaments early in the year.  Jonathan Gray has a tough task against a G1 winner last month.

Not much to rejoice in for the Brits. only Emily coming through:

Boys R1 (L32)

Alberto Romila De Avila Senise (ESP) def. Jay Clarke 3-6 6-3 6-2

Jonathan Gray lost to (3) Alvaro Lopez San Martin (ESP) 6-3 6-1

Girls R1 (L32)

(7) Emily Arbuthnott def. (Q) Sandra Ortevall (SWE) 6-3 6-1

Ema Lazic lost to (3) Charlotte Robillard-Millette (CAN) 6-2 6-4


Emily now plays a Spanish girl, ranked 244


Gray and Marcus Walters (who got dumped out of the singles in R1 qualifying) won their doubles, as did Clarke and Borges (POR). Charles Broom + lost his (made the FQR in singles)

Emily won hers; Ema still to play.

Tremendous win for Emily over an in-form player. Next though is the top seed, who has only dropped 7 games so far.

Well the top seed may only have dropped 7 games in all her matches to date but today she lost 10 in one day alone. Unfortunately, not enough, of course, as she beat Emily A 7-5 7-5

AND we lost both doubles finals, 4 & 2 in the boys but only by a blinkn' 12-10 in the MTB for the girls :(
