Well, Paire is doing his normal Oscar-winning performance of 'I can't be bothered', 'this match is beneath me', 'oh, and I might be injured' . . . I love some of his tennis but that's always been his problem - allez, Hernych, I say, and I support the French !
Oakie - Hernych wins the first set. To be fair to Benoit, he's had major knee problems recently - had a big op last autumn and it's not been perfect since.
However, the amateur dramatics come whatever . . .
Correct me if I'm wrong but Paire hasn't won yet And that man can be quite temperamental at times (!) - understatement - so I never think of his matches as a foregone conclusion.
CD certainly knows a thing or 3 about the French players. Paire has just lost the 1st set to Hernych.
Very good result for Kyle. I would suggest that his next match is all about Paire. If the Frenchman plays well he will win, if he doesn't then Kyle will have a chance. The important thing for Kyle is giving Paire the chance to implode.
Although Kyle has beaten de Schepper before, another good win in that this time last year De Schepper was the number one seed here and ranked 62 in the world.
Could happen and I am really looking forward to seeing how Kyle goes on clay, he likes the surface and is playing well from the back of the court here, although his opponents won't be charging the net on clay. Paire has probably plateaued as one of those perennial GS direct entrants who may get to the 3rd round of a GS with a favourable draw but someone regularly put away by the top 32, this is the next tier of players Kyle needs to consistently beat. Excitingly when he can, I think the UK will have another elite tennis player alongside Andy on the tour. We must congratulate Kyle on a great start to 2015 here's hoping he can keep it up and stuck a few of these type of guys away over the rest of this season.
