It's absolutely infuriating. He has the game to match Novak but every time they play he falls apart mentally at a few crucial stages. After IW I swore that I wouldn't watch their matches in the future. Today I relented and boy do I regret it. It is so depressingly predictable.

Yes agree I think he gets mentally spent when Andy starts shouting at his coach etc you know he is on the way out. Novak fitness wise is light years ahead of Murray. I think Novak is streets ahead of any player just now I think Andy played well for two sets but he just can't keep it up disappointing though
Clearly Novak won well in the end, and it was a very disappointing final set, although with 5 of the 6 final set games going to deuce, 6-0 ( as sometimes happens ) is harsh.
It was gone from Andy saving 5 BPs in game 3, but not a 6th, to go 0-3*
Well, after a brilliant first two sets, that was in the end very disappointing. Can't stand Novak. Hate his foul-mouthed shouts to the crowd (doesn't he realise that they pay his wages?). Just hope that he doesn't win too much more.
Well, I don't like it when Andy is foul-mouthed. But he only swears to himself or his team. Novak swears to the crowd - he tells them to s*** his d*** or to f*** their mothers. I really don't think that's acceptable.
Well definitely a move in the right direction although not a positive outcome, andy is now consistently playing to his seeding and getting increasingly competitive when up against Novak in finals and semis, let's face it he was destroyed in London in December and when he had major successes they were (2/3) on grass at Wimbledon.
Yes, however disappointing the Novak matches, and sone attitude / behavior regression, Andy is clearly moving back in the right direction with his general game.

To some degree I don't care about the attitude / behaviour regression. What bothers me is that I just don't see how Andy is ever going to beat Novak again. Novak was well below par today and Andy was the better player for almost all of the first two sets yet I never for a single moment thought that the result was in doubt. The proudest I ever was of Andy wasn't his Olympic Gold medal, it wasn't his US Open win and it wasn't his Wimbledon win. It was his SF defeat against Novak at the 2012 Australian Open, a match where he gave absolutely everything and eventually lost 7-5 in the fifth after over 4 hours of play. I don't mind admitting that I cried after that defeat, a mixture of sorrow and pride. When he loses to Novak now all I feel is disgust and contempt. I don't know why he even bothers showing up as the result is a foregone conclusion, he knows, Novak knows and so does everyone else.
"Disgust and contempt" for Andy Murray, the greatest British men's player of the open era, indeed longer, and currently number three in the rankings ( a comeback so soon beyond what many anticipated, perhaps including yourself ) and number two in this year's race, who recently led GB to a great Davis Cup win with great enthusiasm, because he has issues against Novak Djokovic and for now doesn't look like beating him ?! Yes, he does have some very annoying ( probably retrospectively to him more than just about anyone ) mental blow outs / strange mindsets, and they have been occurring against Djokovic, and yes Djokovic is currently for me strong favourite in any match they play. But still ...
WOW !!!!!!! Just WOW !!!!! ?????
( And I did read your post in full and in comparison how he has in the past made you so proud, and still WOW !!!!! )
PS : As an aside to simply WOW, I do think that Andy will beat Novak in the future.

Rather gobsmacked. I think we've all said regrettable things in the heat of post-match disappointment but this one takes the 500 match wins cake.

Me too.
I'm hoping RJA, that your strong words were partly a wind up. I'm gutted that he lost, and I have to admit I didn't have Andy down to beat Novak. And yes, he does a have a mental block right now, but this isn't surprising as he's been out with back surgery. Although he's physically back (well mostly, as I was surprised that his legs went in the third set), it seems like it's going to take longer to get mentally back. I have faith he'll do it though. He's a bright lad and if the rumours of a sports psychologist are true then it'll be even quicker.
