I think he would have done it without the net cord, but at least it got the match over - I needed to go and do "stuff" so was a bit impatient when he got broken serving for the match. The only time there was a break point against him, too. Never mind, all's well that ends well.
I think he would have too. But it was just starting to get more complicated than really it should have done. Credit though to Giraldo who landed some heavy blows towards the end.
Thought Andy used his forehand pretty well and did what he needed to. Struggled to close it out but it's not easy when the other guy's got nothing to lose and his shots decide to land inside the lines, rather than outside of them as they often do in matches like that.
And now Rafa, Andy must feel like Moses, the sea is parting and a clear route to the final opening up. All the effort at the tail end of last year is paying off now he is back in the top 4 seeds. I can see Rafa being the first one of the top four to slip away as the next generation emerge.
Berdych and Tomic have gone to a third set, having each won a TB.
If Berdych loses, Andy's last 16 opponent, Kevin Anderson, would then be the second highest ranked remaining player in the bottom half of the draw after Andy.

Didn't happen though. Berdych ran away with the decider winning it 6-1
In a way, I was rather hoping for Andy to meet (and beat) Rafa. I thought it was his best chance to break the "not having beaten a top three for yonks" duck.
