I see that Kern's CH was WR 350 in 2013. At the start of 2014 Liam's CH was outside the top 470. He, of course, has hugely pushed on, but Kern has fallen back for whatever reasons.
Yeah I remember that match I think - was it on court 18? I seem to remember Kern being a big guy with some nice heavy groundstrokes and looking the more technically talented to me but Liam just outfighting him with the help of the crowd having just beaten top seed Vesely a round or two before.
Having had a look at the strength of the field Kern is a tough draw for a R1 match, he made semis last week, so Liam will have to have probably at least his B game out to prevail. Nice to see Liam get some practice in by winning his doubles easily.
