Well it's a win. Hopefully it's still just an element of rust and Liam can pick things up.

Today I thought was a bit of a banana skin, and Liam gained valuable match practice, in having to come from a set down and then having to regain momentum in the final set after losing a 3-0 lead, so all good from my perspective.

More good news for Liam, even if it is by default!

QF:  (2) Jean-Yves Aubone (USA) & Liam Broady CR 801 (512+289) "defeated" (WC) Yannai Barkai & Oran Reznik (ISR/ISR) UNR by a walkover

Hmm, Liam is ranked just over 700 places higher than the Israeli, practically 400 places higher than the guy's CH.

However, having publicly beeen rather underwhelmed by Liam's US futures period last summer before his soaring last few months of the year, I maybe better say no more for now re young Mr Broady

Got the feeling from the stats that Botzer may have been serving bombs. In the 1st set, Liam only won 6 points against the serve in 6 games. Perhaps it just took him some time to work out the serve. After that, apart from a quick blip early in the 3rd, it seemed more straightforward.

QF: (1) Liam Broady WR 184 v Ben Patael (ISR) WR 1160 (CH 1105 Oct 2014)

Patael is still a junior at just 17 yo.

This week for me is about Liam getting that winning habit back and building confidence. He doesn't need to be at his best to win this tournament, but I'm sure he'll gradually turn on the afterburners as the tournament progresses.
