Can't see past a Soderling win. After the kinda bad blood between them in the last match and the amount of time Andy's been on court since their last meeting I'm thinking Soderling will win in two. Hope to be proven completely wrong though.

I went for Andy in 3 but I can understand and see what you are saying.

BUT Andy was exhausted after beating Roddick last week. But he raises his game when it matters.

Thats why I think he will win. Tiredness apart....he can raise his game....and no matter how much bad blood between them Petch will get him focused on the task !

I have to agree with aria81. I think Soderling is due a win against Andy and will be very motivated. I think it's fair to say after two 3-setters against weaker opposition he has failed to hit top gear this week and to be honest I'd be staggered if he had.

At the end of the day though, he has won a string of matches and success breeds success. Psychologically he holds the edge over Soderling who must wonder how he threw the last match away. Another ATP semi for Murray? Why not?

I'm afraid I agree with you. Andy's now had 7 matches in 9 or 10 days, and I just don't see how he's got enough left in the tank to pick it up again against a player who will really feel that he wants some revenge against Andy.

Estimated time for this match:

I'm not sure about this one, Soderling is red hot this week, to beat a player like Max Miryni 6-0, 6-1 takes some doing as "the Beast of Belarus" has one of the biggest serves on tour. You have to be guessing right on the return every single time and hitting passing shots incredibly well. Soderling's serving this week has been world-class aswell.

Murray is looking tired and he's only going to get more tired as the week goes on. It's very sensible that he's withdrawn from Las Vegas next week.
He'll need to be serving well and playing solidly and aggressively from the baseline. At the moment although the serve is pretty good, there are too many errors for him to beat a player like Soderling.

However, Soderling will be psychologically down having lost 2 close matches to Murray. This could play a big part if the match is very close - doubts may start to creep into his mind. Knowing that he failed to put Murray away from a set and a break up may make him tense up if he's winning. Murray traditionally has raised his level for big matches - this is definately a big one as the winner will be odds on to reach the final.

There is bad blood between them, but that will stoke the Scottish fires inside Murray and get him more pumped up than the rather placid Swede. I'm going to stick my neck out and predict Murray in 3

I'm pleased to hear that Andy has pulled out of Las Vegas. It is only a $355,000 tournament and I am worried about Andy getting burned out. I read recently that Nadal, Gasquet and Monfils are all injured right now. That is probably because they over played last year, Andy is a year younger than them and I hope he can be a bit more selective until his body is fully developed.

If I had to put money on the result for this match I would go for Soderling in 3 as he is clearly on form and hungry for revenge. However, if Andy can start the match well he might be able to play some mind games with Soderling and get a win in two. As always it will be interesting.

btw Miss Sears is back in Blighty doing her A-levels so it would have to be some kind of saucy text message after each game.

Option 1 of the vote won't work - Miss Sears has gone back to school in Brighton, I believe.

Edit - cross post with Niall! Great minds and all that.

I really don't think it is fair that you get that horrible "you have just posted" when all you are trying to do is edit!

Edit again - who changed that first option to fit in with Niall's suggestion? Anybody reading this thread later will wonder what we were wittering about.

(Twas Me....Drew...see below....it used to say...."kiss from Miss Sears....")

Maybe Drew's got inside knowledge: Andy may have access to one of those videolinks you can get on computers using complex interfacing. It wouldn't be quite the same but they could then share a "virtual kiss" by kissing the same place on the screen at the same time !!!

In case anyone's interested: I read on the BBC a few days ago, some prankster was winding everyone up by saying he was listening to Murray's matches on the radio using Morse Code. Everyone laughed and said it was not possible but amazingly enough it is:

A few days ago, my electronics tutor demonstrated this to us and tuned into BBC radio Wales using Morse Code signals.

However, the BBC prankster was still telling lies as the Murray matches weren't on any radio station as I checked
