Week 6 - ATP 500, Rotterdam, Indoor Hard - Andy

Andy's route.
R1: Qualifier
R2: Kohlschreiber/Pospisil
QF: Simon
SF: Berdych
F: Raonic/Wawrinka/Dimitrov

A semi against Berdy could be interesting! Though Berdy has a toughish first round against Janowicz. Not a match I will be watching, I don't much like either of them.

He could get James in R1, who's 8th seed in qualifying.

Was wondering this the other day - when was the last time Andy played a Brit in a competitve match. My guess would be Tim Henman - seem to recall them playing in an ATP in Bangkok once upon a time?!

Basel 2005 I think, but I haven't checked. I just remember being torn between supporting Tim, who I had followed for years, and this exciting new youngster: as the match went on I found myself rooting more and more for the youngster and have been an Andy fan ever since.

Edit - yes, that was the first time they played, Bankok 2006 the last, with Toronto and Cinci 06 inbetween.

Yes, think that would have been it.

It did catch real interest at the time, and I am pretty sure the BBC showed it live though it was just an early round at Basel.

Recall Andy loping on with headphones attached, and Andrew Castle making a lot of the contrasts between Tim and Andy.

Gawd, that was nearly ten years ago now ...

Ah, these later occasions after the Basel match had been erased from my memory, with now just vague recall of their meeting in one of these North American Masters.

Yes, hopefully! If Andy is playing AO-level tennis then he should definitely be improving on last year's result (QF loss to Cilic I believe). Fair play to Mahut for qualifying too; it was one of those awful draws for potential qualifiers. It's also interesting to note that presuming all would stay the same, if Ward had stayed and qualified then we would indeed have had a match between the two.

Used to go to this tournament when I lived in Belgium and the top seed was usually scheduled to play on Weds evening.
