Is this potentially the best weekend ever for British Tennis?
Katie age 15 junior finalist at Aussie open (ran out of steam rather than talent), Kyle age 20 Challenger final and looking strong, perhaps on the verge of a break through similar to Andy's Binghamton challenger win Andy Murray GS final back to the big time after back surgery
A big statement but maybe in a year or two with 20:20 hindsight we may look back on it
What a fantastic start to 2015, if it were a game of pontoon I might stick at the end of January
No sticking in January - its February tomorrow!!
Congratulations Kyle on reaching another Challenger final. Will he be looking to schedule some ATP qualifiers by the clay court season?
Oh dear. This is bad news as it means I may have to pull an all-nighter tonight. Kyle's final at 2am Brazilian time followed by Muzza at 5.30am. Kedders - Stop it. I need my sleep.
Seriously though, another really good result. Not only has he reached his second consecutive Challenger final, but he has reached this one without dropping a set. Obviously, Ito will be a step up in levels for the final, but with Kyle playing well, anything is possible.

By my calculations, this will put Kyle up to the low 160s on Monday with 83 points to go on and just 28 to come off. A win in the final will push him up another 10 places or so, to just outside the Top 150.
Kyle has another 27 points to come off in 3 weeks time, but he is down to play (at least) another two Challengers before then.

Another really good win for Kyle. Looking so comfortable at Challenger level now. I can see him winning a couple of tournaments this year. All of his early season points have now been covered and a win in the semis tomorrow would cover almost his entire haul for the 1st 6 months of last year. (83 out of 90).
A place in the top 100 by the end of the year is a very realistic goal, in my opinion, and personally, I am backing him to get there.
Does winning ATP Challengers take a player into the top 100 or does it require making inroads into ATP main tour events as well?
You only have to look so far as Alejandro Gonzalez who last year broke the top 100 without a single ATP win (in-fact, he might not have even played in an ATP event). Given the points for winning a Challenger are around the same amount to making an ATP 250 semi-final, it's not surprising.
Unless I'm mistaken, Kyle has played a tie-break in all four of his matches, and won all four. That's mighty impressive.
Of the 90 points he's defending from Jan-Jun he's now defended all but 7 of them. He's effectively got five months to make a push up the rankings now without having to worry about defending anything. I'm very much looking forward to watching this progress.
