RE: Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open (men's)

As requested CD:

Ranking has doubled in the last three months, I think due to a combination of being injured and not defending points.

Generally a solid challenger player, doesn't serve many aces so should be a good match up for Andy.

Second match on Margaret Court Arena on Monday, the first match starting at 11am local time which is midnight for the UK. Andy on at maybe 2-3am? Or a bit sooner as the first match is a Ladies'. Either way not doable for me, I'm afraid. Eurosport Player had better have the match for replay!

Edit - somebody please check my times, I have a mental block for times in advance of oursdisbelief

Looks fine to me, Madeline ( if not fine for you to watch ).

Melbourne is 11 hours ahead of GMT, so going 11 hours backwards from an 11 am local time start takes us to a midnight GMT start for that first women's match, to be followed by Andy whenever ...

I am hoping that ESPN or Fox Sports covers the Aussie Open as I will be back in Brazil by Monday. My time zone is 3 hours behind UK time when I am there, so the timings work well for me. Sorry.

A very talented player who would probably be top 100 by now if not for constant injuries. He might cause a few problems but Andy should be fine.

Thank you, Bob, you will be our correspondent for early Melbourne matches ( say the first four or five hours ! )

Well volunteered :)

Just for the record:

L128:  (6) Andy Murray WR 6 (CH = 2 in August 2009) vs (Q) Yuki Bhambri (IND) WR 314 (CH = 143 in February last year)

No head-to-head.

Bhambri was supposed to be the next big thing, having been a top junior at a young age, similar to Tomic. So one to look out for, going forward, but in Andy's current form, should be a comfortable straight sets win.

For the stat-heads (and from the Sports Illustrated Executive Editor, haven't checked but assume he's right):

"In men's draw, 33 players are 30+ ...and 11 are from Asia ..."

Arrived safely in Brazil, just in time for Andy's match and it is not being covered on TV here. So I am going to have to let you down. Sorry.

First impressions of Bhambri: clean, agile and consistent. Been a bit of a slugfest in the first few games (2-1*) with little variation. It looks very hot.

4-1* to 4-3* in some decent games. Players seem more keen to attempt winners by now.

I'm too tired to tell whether the constant danger of players losing their serve is due to their own or their opponent's performance, but it's quite a tight match at times.

The proverbial curate's egg comes to mind. Some pretty average play at times, I'd say, where the more accomplished player is brought to his opponent's level.
