Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open (men's)

The draw is, I believe, scheduled to take place in just over two hours' time.  In the meantime, here's a reasonable interview Andy gave Sport Magazine, the weekly free magazine handed out at Tube & mainline stations in Central London on Thursdays & Fridays, this week in advance of the start of the AO.  One or two interesting insights...

As the interview was from a freebie, I was expecting something really bland but I thought that was quite a good informative interview.

All this optimism...I can see Andy getting shafted with some Goffin/Coric-esque draws.

L128: (6) Andy Murray WR 6 v Qualifier

He is in Federer's quarter and Rafa's half.

It's being in Fed's quarter which is the problem, early rounds look good though.

I can see him beating Fed Down Under....slower court than indoors and also the heat.

I'm strongly favouring a good run from Andy here, he seems in a great spot mentally and with his game at the moment, and I agree he could beat Fed.

Hmm. Have watched some of Federer playing in Brisbane. Very, very good. Did not want Mr Miurray ending up in that quarter - unusually, given his record, I'd rather hoped he'd get Nadal.

Main thing for me is that he's avoided Novak.

What's the etiquette here? We appear to have two threads for the main draw men - I vote we just use the other one since that seems to be what has already started to happen.

As this board is officially called the Andy Murray Message Board, Andy has always had a an entire section of his own to focus on his results etc.  Everyone else has gone in the Men's section of the board.  It is always a case that when Slams come around, we have two threads, one for Andy and one for the "also-rans".  I guess that this situation has mirrored (unintentionally of course) GB Men's Tennis over the last few years.

Maybe as things change over the next couple of years and hopefully we get 4 or 5 players in the top echelons of the game, this policy can change.  For the time being however, it is the format that we "oldtimers" are familiar with and you know how much older people, such as myself, hate change wink

Oh, yes, I've got in the habit of just going to the threads via 'recent posts' and confused myself clearly! Thanks Bob in Spain! It would be a nice problem to have huh?!

Only what is available on the ATP site. 22, ranked 314, former #1 junior who won the AO junior title. Right-handed, double handed backhand, Bolletieri product. Good draw for Andy.
