Is Gabby injured or did she choose not to play?

Maia and partner beat the number two seeds in the doubles, 6-1 6-0 (!!!)

This included Shiin Xu, the number one seed in the singles who got unceremoniously dumped out in the first round by a Canadian girl. Guess she truly had a bad day . . .

Nasty+ lost their match.

Sadly Katie had to retire from her match today. Gabi was a late withdrawal, but I don't know the reason why.

Girls R2

Aleksandra Pospelova (RUS) d. Katie Swan 6-2 2-0 rtd

Pity. No Brits were seeded to get past R2 in the singles, but after Katie took out the top seed in her section in R1 it looked good for her. I do hope it is nothing too serious.

Maia and Jokic won their second round doubles. Into the quarters . . .

However, the real big thing at the moment is the impact of the Americans.

They have SIX quarterfinalists in the boys

And FIVE quarterfinalists (including two qualifiers) in the girls

First time for decades/ever.

Looks like the American resurgence is finally coming. About time too. Strange as it seems to be coinciding with the demise of Russia as such a super power in tennis

Interestingly, an unseeded Greek player has made the boys final, beating the top seed:

Semis:

Stefanos TSITSIPAS (GRE) 6-4 7-5 Andrey RUBLEV (RUS) [1]
Stefan KOZLOV (USA) [2] 6-2 3-6 6-1 Reilly OPELKA (USA)

Final: Stefanos TSITSIPAS (GRE) v Stefan KOZLOV (USA) [2]

And two American girls have made the girls' final, but one's a qualifier and the other one beat Cici Bellis very easily . . .

Semis:

(q) Ingrid NEEL (USA) 6-2 4-6 6-4 Monika KILNAROVA (CZE)
Sofia KENIN (USA) [13] 6-3 6-2 Catherine BELLIS (USA) [2]

Final: (q) Ingrid NEEL (USA) v Sofia KENIN (USA) [13]

That'll be the Sofia Kenin that Katie Swan beat 6-2 6-3 last week in the last 16 of the Eddie Herr.

Katie looks to be pretty well in the mix at her best, but yes the Americans gathering a good group of juniors.

Congratulations to Americans Stefan Kozlov, and Sofia Kenin, who won the Orange Bowl Championship titles.

(Just for the general interest, Kozlov was born in Macedonia and Kenin in Moscow - don't know at what age they came to the US)

Very glad for Kozlov - he has been the RU at so many big tournaments ... good that he finally got one. I was going to say "at the last opportunity" since I think he's said that he's going to stop playing juniors now. But he could have two more years of junior eligibility. Doubt that Bellis and Kenin will stay in juniors either, even though Bellis is even younger!

Bellis should probably mix up the big junior events with some senior events. She's still yet to win a junior slam or come anywhere near one i think
