RE: Week 43 - ATP World Tour 500 - Valencia, Spain - Hard (AM)

Missed the match, but it sounds like a real Murraycoaster, so my nerves are glad I've missed it.
Well done Mr Murray, and prematurely to qualifying for the WTF.

As El Pais said, "a match made of guts, heart, and talent, lasting 3 h 20m, and with moments to remember." (Quite a good article, actually: deportes.elpais.com/deportes/2014/10/26/actualidad/1414348795_578566.html)

Extraordinary work. So good to see him back fighting.

Andy is now 4th on his own in terms of singles titles from current players. I wonder who the top 3 are :)

1. Federer 82
2. Nadal 64
3. Djokovic 46
4. Murray 31
5. Hewitt 30

Out of interest, I looked at the number of singles titles for the rest of the current top 12.

Ferrer 21
Cilic 13
Tsonga 11
Berdych 10
Wawrinka 7
Nishikori 7
Raonic 6
Dimitrov 4

If you leave aside Hewitt, whose big successes were before Andy came on the scene, he is so clearly in just about all statistics well clear of all but the magnificent 3.

eg. at the pinnacle, Grand Slam finals 7 of which 2 won ( oh, and an Olympic Gold medal ).

None of these others has been in more than one Slam final ( Raonic and Nishikori none ) and with just Wawrinka and Cilic winning ( both this year of course ).

The missing Del Potro is another with the one final, his US Open title.

It is often said that Andy has been very unlucky to be around at the time of the magnificent 3, but he has still achieved so much and separated himself so very clearly from everyone else.

Didn't Nishikori get to the final of this year's US Open before losing to Cilic ?
