Week 39 - ATP 250 - Shenzhen, China (Hard)

On serve in the 2nd at 4-3. Sigh. And were Monaco to win, I don't think it would even really count as a huge upset in most people's minds at present, which is the part one really regrets.

On another note, I was really surprised to learn that Benneteau - finalist in Kuala Lumpur - has never won a singles title.

Edit: singles added ... and ATP what is this with "looks to win his first ATP World Tour title" headline? I'd just finished typing the above when I recollected that he has quite a few ATP titles to his name ... not to mention a current Grand Slam.

On a happier note, Mr Murray won the second set 6-3 and is leading 3-0 in the 3rd.

Andy has a double break, *3-0 in the decider. He is playing a lot better now the court is in shade.

Wraps it up with a bagel in the decider!

SF: (2/WC) Andy Murray WR 11 beat Juan Mónaco (ARG) WR 97 (CH 10 in 2012) by 2-6 6-3 6-0

FINAL: (2/WC) Andy Murray WR 11 v (4) Tommy Robredo (ESP) WR 22 (CH 5 in 2006)

H2H 3-3 - last year's straight sets win at Wimbledon was their first meeting since 2010

Robredo has frequently given Andy fits - I hope the weather is more to Andy's liking tomorrow. At the courtside interview he said he had found it very difficult in the sun - but once that disappeared he looked much happier.

I haven't been impressed with Andy this week but all that really counts is getting a tournament win under his belt. If he can do that I will be happy with the week in spite of his less than stellar play.

Andy may not be playing exactly great generally, but surely some reason for optimism, folk.

Getting in ( and winning ) matches before the important Beijing and Shanghai weeks.

First final since Wimbledon title last year.

Still 11th in the race, but all pretty tight and now just 205 points behind Berdych in 8th ( will be 10th, 105 points behind Berdych if he beats Robredo )

Benneteau is a serial runner up on the singles circuit - his record is 0-9! I'm a big Nishikori fan but would like to see Benneteau win tomorrow, would be a great moment (and he's not got too many years left).

Looks like Eurosport UK has picked up the Shenzhen final live tomorrow morning, as I don't believe it has been live this week, only highlights. Then Sky Sports is showing the Beijing 500, so no more streams for me hopefully.

For anyone not watching, Murray saved 6 match points before taking the second set tie-break.

those saved match points are worth 100 ranking points (as Andy is romping away with 3rd set). Whats the betting that he qualifies for ATP finals by less than a 100 points???

I only managed to see from the 2nd set tiebreak. What a Murraycoaster! Switching from Championship points for Tommy to set points for Andy. The end was rather a damp squib, Tommy obviously suffering physically, he could hardly move. But yes - Andy's first tournament win since the surgery!

FINAL: (2/WC) Andy Murray WR 11 beat (4) Tommy Robredo (ESP) WR 22 (CH 5 in 2006) by 5-7 7-6(9) 6-1

It's Andy's 29th ATP singles title and first since Wimbledon last year.

He toughed that one out and became the 16th different male GB player to take a tour title this year.
