Just general info, which is not hugely relevant, but perhaps slightly interesting re the NTC happenings. .
Grégoire Barrère is 20 and went to INSEP from ages 15-18.
INSEP is the publicly funded state institute of elite sport which covers about 20 sports and allows all high performers to live and train and study together.
Most of the federations of the individual sports also use it as one of their 'centres of excellence' (Pôles), which is a separate thing but run within the auspices of INSEP for economies of scale etc.
After his Bac, Greg then was selected for France's NTC equivalent at Roland Garros (the CNE). (Most - but not all - of the high-flying youngish guys are there - Pouille, Bourgue, Lamasine . . .)
But he chose not to go, prefering to stay with his own coach, saying that the NTC was certainly 'more comfortable' but he didn't think the set-up was for him. (He still gets a certain amount of federation funding to help). Seems to be working out pretty well (although maybe not as well as a couple of the others ? though who's to say that's due to the coaching decision and not other things . . .)
Wouldn't worry about Alex, didnrt he have one poor week when he came back from injury last time, then went on a good run?
Jaffa, I cursed him as much because he beat George Coupland in the first round, Dave Rice in France last week & Jack Carpenter in the Bulgarian F3 in June as because he got the better of Alex! A GEM in the making...
Yes, would be good to see Liam have a very good week here, with next up defeating Monsieur Barrere ( in spite of us generally being so welcoming to all foreign players :) )
I was pretty unconvinced about his early results and form in his North American foray. But it did generally get better and he finished with that 15K title in Canada. I take him to reach the final, with either Brydan or Ed emerging from the other half.
I would like to see things pick up more for Luke. His North American time was much less fruitful. paulisi indicated that he played very well yesterday and that's a pretty close match he's had with an in form Brydan.

No, Jack actually beat him back in June, 7-5 in the third
In fact, Jack was probably the last to get the better of him . . .

Whoops! So he did! Just checked & the full score was 6-4 4-6 7-5 to Jack, Barrère being the sixth seed...
Exciting times for Liam, and an impressive start here. Coxy seems a little down on his most recent form, so looks a little vulnerable. Shame for Bambo, after yesterday's impressive display, but Brydan is in form.
