This annual event between the US and us Brits is being held for the 2nd time in New Haven, alongside the WTA event. Last year we were comfortably beaten in Eastbourne, following a shock victory when we played here in New Haven.
GB has fielded a very strong team, whereas sadly the US are fielding a shockingly weak team, so this should be a drubbing.
GB : Swan, Lumsden, Taylor, Christie.
We have won the first two rubbers, Taylor over Dolehide 7-5 6-3, Christie over Day 6-2 5-7 6-2.
You can follow the livescores via the WTA website, just click on the New Haven link.
It is an odd US team. But Halbauer (who is probably the least well known in juniors) has mostly been playing pro events $10ks and looks to have had some half decent results. Very little junior tennis this year though.
One thing I have noticed is that this group of British players does seem to struggle somewhat against their peers in doubles. Certainly seemed to impact our chances of qualifying for the Junior FedCup final, and again here a little bit lucky not to have lost both lots of doubles.
3 of the 4 GB girls came from a set down to win in the singles today. Maia won in straight sets to round off a perfect set of results from the morning.
