MoCo Trophy in New Haven

This annual event between the US and us Brits is being held for the 2nd time in New Haven, alongside the WTA event. Last year we were comfortably beaten in Eastbourne, following a shock victory when we played here in New Haven.

GB has fielded a very strong team, whereas sadly the US are fielding a shockingly weak team, so this should be a drubbing.

GB : Swan, Lumsden, Taylor, Christie.

We have won the first two rubbers, Taylor over Dolehide 7-5 6-3, Christie over Day 6-2 5-7 6-2.

You can follow the livescores via the WTA website, just click on the New Haven link.

If you follow Judy Murray;s tweets, she also gives a lot of updates (she's out there as coach/captain) and she's also doing a blog on the LTA site:

We are treating it as a big deal, with Judy and Iain out there, whilst the US are fielding top 500 ranked junior players.

It is an odd US team. But Halbauer (who is probably the least well known in juniors) has mostly been playing pro events $10ks and looks to have had some half decent results. Very little junior tennis this year though.

Quite a few of the US players we might expect to be here have US Open MD WC, like Catherine Bellis. So, I guess prep for that takes priority.

Not sure what's happened to Katie Swan's match, as it should have been on by now.

I think yesterday was just day one, wasn't it AliB ?

there's another 6 matches today.

Nice photo of the team

Mind you, if - on paper - this was supposed to be a GB whitewash . . . . 4-2 ? Wouldn't like to see a CLOSE match . . .

Good luck to the girls today.

One thing I have noticed is that this group of British players does seem to struggle somewhat against their peers in doubles. Certainly seemed to impact our chances of qualifying for the Junior FedCup final, and again here a little bit lucky not to have lost both lots of doubles.

I didn't realise how tall Freya was, compared to the rest. She towers over them now.  Mind you last time I saw Freya was 12 months ago.

I'm surprised Izzy was selected or was that her decision to focus on the main tour?

I'm guessing they chose to go with the younger brigade, otherwise Bolts might have been selected.
