RE: Week 35 - US Open

It's a pending change for next year, assisted by the novel idea of completing the men's first round in the first two days.

I therefore assume that the men's SFs will be scheduled for the Friday.

I know I am in a considerable minority here but I deplore the change of schedule and the thinking behind it. Yes I know that "Super Saturday" was all about TV money and yes I know that playing the SFs and Saturday and the final on Sunday is tough on the players but so what. This is a grand slam it is supposed to be tough and this schedule added a unique challenge to winning the US Open.

If it was just a question of changing because the players don't want to play two days in a row I'd be with you 100% RJA but for me the actual problem is about making it fair for both finalists. The way they've run Super Saturday with one SF after the other on Ashe is too unpredictable and it's simply not fair for the second SF player who in effect is risking having to play the final with less than 12 hours rest after finishing the semi and in that context the extra 2/3 hours rest for the first finalist is too great an advantage and that's without any consideration for potential rain delays.

If they played the two matches alongside each other one on Ashe and one on Armstrong I'd be fine with it, but they'd never get away with that from the TV people or the players - especially whilst the two courts have so much difference between them.

Wow. Nishikori beats Djokovic in 4 sets to reach the final.

A real turn up for the books . . .  great to see.  smile

And, to think, this time last year Dan Evans was putting Kei out of the US Open in the first round . . .

A year on and both have reached the complete opposite ends of the spectrum (one on the verge of winning a grand slam and the other losing (retiring) to an unranked player in a Futures event).
