He has had to do it the hard way and is an example like many others who don't have money or funding to chase expensive Itfs and will come through later .There are many many boys especially ,
who have not even done Itfs and will go straight into futures who will start to show some form much later than the age of 16 when it seems many people in uk seem to write them off.
Hi Lolly. I'm a fan of Enrique too, as you may well have read.
Sorry to hear that funding is a problem although, as you say, I don't set much store by junior ITF rankings/success either - it's fun as far as it goes, which is not that far. As long as he's got enough funding for top coaching (and some matches), its fine . . .
Just curious if you know - is Enrique going to sixth-form college ? Does he plan to turn pro ? Earlier rather than later ? Aim for US college ?
NB I also think that a lot of tall, skinny lads, like Vidal, also take longer to come through - smaller kids are better coordinated and haven't been sideswiped by growth spurts. But the tall ones do just fine in the end :)
i dont know if Enrique is going to uni, he is a 96 born so I am guessing he would go this summer if he is going.
I am sure he will stick with it and try to make it as a pro as he has a fantastic work ethic and works hard.
my son is tall and skinny and I agree with your point, he has come into his own in this last year after growing a huge amount at the beginning of the year.
Everyone assumes that players start playing aged 5 but some like my son started aged 11 and has improved aged 16+
keep yep your updates coming they are very informative.....
Have heard that Enrique has left school and not planning on college and that he is experimenting with basing himself in Spain where coaching is cheaper. Maybe he has family there? Whatever route he takes I wish him well. Last time I saw him play, I thought he had lots going for him, just a bit green about putting it all together plus, as you say CD, a bit gangly.
