Not the snappiest event title I have come across, but Emily Arbuthnott starts her preparation for the US Open here, and is joined by rookie qualifier Ryan Storrie who, like Coup Droit in the General Tennis discussion section, I hadn't come across before. For the benefit of anyone who hasn't visited that section there's an illuminating article at http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/jul/08/ryan-storrie-british-tennis-california-brian-teacher . There is a brief glimpse of him in a YouTube video after a coaching session from Mats Wilander, but it doesn't appear to show him in action. His opponent today reached a G1 final in his last junior tournament in April

Ryan won all three qualifiers in straight sets - 6-0 6-0, 6-2 6-0 and 6-3 6-4

This is his first ITF junior event and he is playing doubles as well with a guy from Chinese Taipei

That must be one of the most impressive ITF debuts ever. I have no recollection of any of our other '98s scalping someone of the stature of Ponwith yet (Jay Clarke is our top ranked - just inside 300). Emily's next opponent reached a G1 quarter-final earlier in the year.

No real joy in the doubles either, although Storrie's seems a very close match, against a seeded pair:
