I did admire her, particularly her ability to keep going so strong in 3-set matches. But as she took meldonium for most of her career (legally), how much of her concentration and good decision making in those third sets was down to an advantage given by the drug. Totally tainted for me, compounded by the sheer arrogance shown on her return from the ban.
Forever tainted in my book. And I couldn't stand her prima donna attitude particularly during and post the whole meldonium thing. She would feature in no list of mine of women tennis greats.

And her drop in form after the ban (or lack of return to form) is quite telling as well, albeit injuries make that harder to assess
I'm not going to hold the meldonium against her as rightly or wrongly it was legal and I suspect most of the tour was on it, they were just smart enough to stop taking it when the ban came in. In my opinion her grunting was a bigger crime!!!
Best wishes to Joanna Larsson, who has announced her retirement. Good solid player and long time top 100 fixture, and a fine doubles partnership with Kiki Bertens.
Sweden don't have much room to lose good players these days, and all the burden for that nation will now fall to their remaining top 100 player, Rebecca Peterson, who has been a top 50-100 player for the last couple of years. After that though, Sweden now have no active player in the top 300 WTA.
Best wishes to the 'other Johanna' for whatever the next chapter of her life brings.
Vania King announces her retirement after not being able to fully recover from injury. Does plan to play a few tournaments in the US in the next month or so before moving onto other interests.

Really nice that she's reuniting with Shcedova for some doubles in her last few events. They were a really good team, and a proper, lasting tennis friendship.
Vania is a really good singer so maybe she'll start posting covers again like she used to
I see 2017 Wimbledon SFist Rybarikova announced her retirement plans yesterday, and will bow out after the Fed Cup finals next month. She's been a big fixture in the grass season in recent years, so thought she might have tried to give that one last go.
There's been loads of 29-31 year old WTA players who have either retired or announced retirement plans in the past few months - CSN, Minella, Cibulkova, Wozniacki, Sharapova, Makarova Rybarikova, Larsson, probably a few I've missed as well.

Sad about CSN going, she's the Federer equivalent of elegant players because she plays a single handed backhand.
I notice that tournaments are being cancelled in China, Japan and Italy. Clearly it doesn't make sense for players to go to those places if they risk being put in isolation as soon as they leave. I imagine this will cover more and more countries as the virus spreads.
I'm sure he'd rather not have had another 'quick' surgery but I imagine he is not too unhappy missing the rest of the year. He is open that he dislikes travelling without his family and it would seem that would not be allowed at some venues this year. It is also questionable whether he and Mirka would want the children travelling at this time.
