@sportdw on Twitter tells me he thinks Izzy is the first GB girl to get into R3 at Roland Garros juniors for 20 years! (certainly, Laura, Hev, Anne & Bally never managed it) - maybe David will be able to confirm or deny that later.

Yes, thin pickings in recent years at Roland Garros. Megan Miller in 1994 was the last to reach round 3 . Quarters is a big ask for Izzy against someone like Abanda, who was a top 5 junior and is now transitioning, very comfortable on clay (won a 25K earlier this year).

No joy for Katie in doubles unfortunately

R3

(10) Francoise Abanda (CAN) v (SE) Isabelle Wallace (GBR) Match 1 Ct 6

Doubles R1 (L32)

Heinova/Komardina (CZE/RUS) d. (3) Boulter/Jorovic (GBR/SRB) 1-6 6-3 [10-6]

Don't want to be too controversial, but Izzy should really be concentrating on playing main tour events rather than juniors. I'm hoping Roehampton and Wimbledon will be the last junior tournaments she plays.

This is her last year as a junior and she is a decent junior with no main tour ranking yet. She needs to do what Harriet, Katy and Katie have done and leave the juniors alone and push onto the tour.

I expect Wimbledon will be her last junior event. The difference between Izzy's position and that of Katie/Katy is that they had the ranking for direct entry to slams in their final year, whilst Izzy needed to garner more points to improve her chances.

Abanda is winning but Izzy is giving her much more of a fight than I had dared to hope - 5-7 *4-5

Izzy serving to stay in the match. She recovers from 0-30 to deuce then saves a match point and holds to go into a tiebreak. 5-7 6-6

Izzy saved at least one more match point in the tiebreak and had at least one set point but Abanda edges the tiebreak 10-8 to win 7-5 7-6(8) - a very impressive RG from Izzy though.

Bravo to Izzy.

Well, Megan Miller made it to WR 235 (and junior CH 76) - now it's your turn Izzy !

NB Katie Swan's friend, Bellis (and number two seed) lost easily to an unseeded Czech girl yesterday.

Didn't realise that Bellis had climbed that high in the rankings already and only just 15.

She's not played much on the main tour yet, with a CH of 1204

Before the age of 15, you're hardly allowed to play any senior tournaments.

Now, at 15, she is allowed to play 10 senior tourneys, unless she can 'earn' a few more with the 'merited increase system'.

Personally, I hope she takes it slowly, she's still pretty small and, supposedly, still growing, and still at school.

Very good attempt by Izzy.

Hopefully Bellis's ranking will be further inspiration for Katie, if she needs more.

Really fine work from Ms Wallace - not just the two victories, but also the very impressive showing against Ms Abanda.

Just in case anyone is interested, the boys final is between a Spaniard and a Russian

Munar Cler v Rublev

The girsl final is Jorovic(SRB) v Kasatkina(RUS) - both of whom are making headway on the main tour

The unseeded 14 year-old Czech girl, Marketa Vondrousova, also did amazingly well, getting to the semis and only losing 4-6 in the final set to the Russian girl.
