Wow. I wasn't born for another decade. I feel so young.

You are ALL young. I was working, but always took some of my holidays in half-days over Wimbledon, so I saw it on tv.

Gosh yes, I'd forgotten it was on a Friday. I was at uni and watched in the tv room in the hall I lived in. Then there was the mad dash to the payphone(!) to call my mum and scream down the phone "she won"!!!!!!!!!!!!

my junior school teacher conveniently deciding that lessons should be suspended, and the 'video room' put to use, on the Friday afternoon when Virginia Wade made the Wimbly final - and a very enjoyable and educational afternoon was had by all. smile

My memories of that event were tainted by the Wednesday(?) afternoon when I too had to go to the dentist after school and the radio was on with Sue Barker's semi-final. Probably the first time I had ever heard a tennis match on the radio and I was trying to concentrate on that as the dentist was drilling away for a filling. Wasn't until I got home that I found out that she had lost so no all GB final.

Yes, those were the days when they didn't play on either Sunday. I was at primary school and, like Bob, wasn't able to watch but was aware that half of the teachers were watching it in the staff room. So much for inspiring the kids, eh!

Well, then, yet again I would like to thank Mr. Baker !!! And, well done to seagull's mum - probably get slapped with a fine now . . . .

Andy vs Gael is on Chatrier tomorrow, following Errani vs Petkovic ( 1 pm BST start for the women ).

The Spanish duo have been sent to Lenglen.

Quite right too.

Sigh. I normally don't get home until 3.30-4pm on Wednesday. I'm frantically trying to rearrange my schedule. I wonder if my husband would mind lunch being put back to 2.30?

Verdasco's comments suggest that Andy would be better off on Lenglen but then there was no chance of that happening in reality considering his opposition.

This is where I'd prefer say a Gasquet to Monfils.

Monfils could be inspired, although possibly still not enough if Andy again plays near his best. Gasquet would be more likely to be crushed by it all.

I agree. I'd put my money on Andy to beat Gasquet, on clay, any day of the week.

But Gael ? Now there's a conundrum . . . heaven knows what you're going to get when Gael steps on the court . .  he'll like being on Centre court too (not that Andy will mind either, I'm sure). I think Andy was out practising on the centre court this morning, leading pundits to guess that he already knew that he was going to be playing there. Seemingly, Gael though chose to go and hits balls on an outside court with 'joker' friend, Gicquel. Not sure that strategy really comes into it . ..

Gael has already played on Chatrier, though, hasn't he? Andy hasn't, no doubt felt he needed to get the feel of the court, which wasn't necessary for Gael.
