L32: (7) Andy Murray WR 8 v Nicolas Almagro (ESP) WR 24 (CH 9 in 2011) or a qualifier

H2H v Almagro is 3-1 but 0-1 on clay, that 4 set win for the Spaniard at Roland Garros in 2008.

The likely route to glory if he survives that R2 match is:

R3: (11) Tsonga

QF: (4) Federer

SF: (1) Nadal

FINAL: (2) Djokovic

Maybe I'll be home sooner than planned. At least he will start against Almagro who is not playing well at the moment. I mean, who has he beaten recently ? Oh yeah. Nadal.  disbelief

Now why couldn't he have got an easier first match to ease himself into the tournament? Almagro must be one of the most difficult persons to play on clay, when Andy is rusty. Maybe even when he is not!

Mr Murray has sometimes seemed to specialise in nasty draws, but I cannot think of a nastier one than this ... unless perhaps one substituted Mr Fognini (on a good day) for Mr Tsonga. (Or clearly someone like Mr Berdych for Mr Tsonga, were the rankings to permit this.)

Well with Djokovic out Andy's route to the title is marginally less horrific....unfortunately I highly doubt he'll get far enough to reap the benefit!!

Seriously though, I hope Nole's wrist is not as bad as he still seems to fear it could be, there have been too many bad wrists this year.

almagro 1 set up in his 1st round match.

Will G Simon get a walkover or does a lucky loser get a chance, cos of Fed pulling out.

If Simon gets the walkover, he's only had 2 games (ie 8 points) practice before facing Verdasco

well it only took 11 match points but Almagro has confirmed himself as Andy's round 2 opponent. Set to play not before 8:00pm local (7:00pm BST) tomorrow.

Ah! A little re-arrangement of my day and I should be able to watch that.

I confess I'm a little worried about a rusty Andy meeting Almagro on clay. But if he can get through that one. . .
