Boys: Nike Junior International Nottingham (week 2), hard - Grade 4 (Week 17)

Week 1 winner Jamie Malik is the top seed . All the top 8 seeds are British including Luke Simeone at 8, who takes on young Jack Molloy, who had an excellent run in week 1.  The draw is on the ITF site but not the LTA site at present

Luke easily accounted for Jack, but Stefan Cooper's singles woe continued - at 6 the highest seed to lose.

All the remaining seeds moved through to round 3, with only one non-Brit left in the draw (13th seed Osgar O'Hoisin from Ireland)

Luke Oakley accounted for the Irish interloper ensuring a home title. Dan Bennett easily dealt with Isaac Stoute whilst 14 year old Barnaby Smith fully justified his wildcard with a comprehensive win against Luke Simeone, with the quarters turning out as follows:

(1) Jamie Malik v (WC) Barnaby Smith
(4) Marcus Walters v (9) Jonathan Gray
(5) Daniel Bennett v (3) Luke Oakley
(7/WC) Max Stewart v (2) Mason Recci

Jamie should get through his half of the draw and I would think Luke may well be his opponent

Wins for Jamie, Marcus, Daniel and Mason - so i was wrong predicting Luke would get through. It went to 3 sets though

This exchange with a Twitter follower earlier made me smile:

@GBtennis: "Nottingham ITF 18U G4: Congrats to top seed Jamie Malik, who defeats 2nd seed Mason 2&1 to win his 2nd boys' singles title in 2 weeks here"
@Jon_Marsh25: "@GBtennis I played Jamie once! That's hard to believe!"
@GBtennis: "@Jon_Marsh25 Dare I ask what the score was? "
@Jon_Marsh25: "@GBtennis haha 6-0 to Jamie and then I retired! "

 Welcome to the board smile Hopefully Jamie didn't set any records for alcohol consumption wink On the playing front though two wins has only been achieved here by Katy Dunne since the Nottingham fortnight started in 2008
