Andy already said yesterday, ahead of the vote, that he was going to play for GB next March, whichever way the vote went. So, back to the DC tie now. . .

Thanks Madeline for politely pointing us to the referendum thread that you helped put in place when this thread innocently and for understandable reasons strayed into independence territory.

Davis Cup...

With a home tie and Andy likely to play, I still think this is a tough ask for GB with Isner likely back in the team.
When will we know the venue? With Andy, Jamie and Colin likely in the team Braehead could be a good choice.

Braehead hasn't got nearly enough capacity for a World Group tie. If they wanted to hold it in Scotland, they'd have to find somewhere bigger.

One thing that no one here has mentioned is what a horrible schedule this is for the Americans. Their players tend to play the US events in February (Memphis, Delray Beach) and then Indian Wells and Miami in March. I doubt that they will be overly happy about playing a Davis Cup tie in Britain in the middle of that.

Andy didn't actually declare a position. He just said he didn't like some of the No campaign tactics in the last few days and that he was looking forward to the result. The rest is media conjecture and has been blown way out of proportion.

I agree Braehead is too small for a USA World Group tie, and in general it has been maybe more than enough in Scotland.

Hasn't the NCC in Birmingham been a good venue before ?

Not head mention of the o2 ? Could get a terrific atmosphere there. Andy might even get cheered in that Federerdome.

I don't see that it's that horrible for the USA, flying over for a Davis Cup tie in the UK, presumably still on hard court.

Short of the obvious ideal of never leaving the USA during such a period, it's relatively not that bad.

I wonder where they will play it. Any rumours?

Coventry, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow - I think have been used recently for home indoor fixtures.

Devonshire park on grass great home advantage

Maybe, but not for a tie in early March.

I am club captain at DPLTC yes  grass would not normally not be ready but why not produce some grass courts even indoors specifically for the tie and utilise centre court Wimbledon

but I guess indoor hard also an advantage .

I am building 2 new clay courts to aim to gain a home advantage on clay next year . Leon should be looking to create same home advantage

They should just build some new indoor courts in York, make it easier for me!

Surface may be important. Do you look to negate Isner's serve or focus on GB advantage.

So close to Indian Wells and Miami it will be hard.

And as discussed, a slowish indoor hard court against the likes of Isner and Querrey seems a reasonable way to go anyway.

Playing outdoors in early March is clearly a non starter due to the weather while producing an indoor grass court for a one off tie would be insanely expensive as you would have to hire the venue for weeks if not months in advance. Wimbledon Centre Court is also a non starter as the AELTC would give a polite but firm "no chance in hell" response and surely it would still be pretty cold, even under the roof.
