RE: Davis Cup 2015 - World Group Round 1 - 6-8 Mar

ok, I have to say that I did feel for the Americans at times - extremely difficult for them and was very impressed with how they handled the occasion

but absolutely brilliant by all our guys - Team GB :)

Barry flatman in the times said wimbledon already ruled out. Eastbourne would be good as no men's atp tourney this year, but I reckon queens could the place as players in London. Got to be grass!

If we can get past the French, the semi (kaz or Aus) looks tasty.

The last time we played France at home was the last time we played a DC tie at Queen's ... and France won 5-0! They also won 5-0 in Bayonne in 1992, the last time we played them in DC anywhere.

very well done to Andy there. like Beefy (I think) I felt a little concerned about todays match with Isner as he may have wanted to prove a point but thankfully Andy won that first set and never looked back. Well done to all Team GB and Captain Leon bringing out the best in everyone :) :) :)

ps was Kyle there, he wasn't on the team photo at the end unless I missed him ?

I didn't spot Kyle at all today.

Kyle wasn't around on Saturday either I don't think.  Sorry for mentioning Dan Evans - think it was an exact copy!

I would guess the chanting had a lot to do with the Stirling Uni group being there rather than anything much to do with the crowd in general ( except maybe led a bit ) or the venue.

And wherever the QF is so will they be ( I imagine anyway, during the summer or not )

They were in Sweden a couple of years ago for the Fed Cup match and it had a pretty familiar ring.

Didn't really bother me then in person or with this tie on TV. They are big fans and know when to shut up.

The Americans were unhappy with the DJ cranking up the music when our lads were leading the Bryans complained I think

I'd keep to a winning formula and play the tie in Scotland again.

Notwithstanding the doubles loss, this was such a good tie from various points of view. Not least the result obviously, but it now shows we can play and win as a team, particularly in doubles where I've always feel that having to rely on the strength of Andy Murray is in many ways a weakness rather than strength. Ok, we had a bit of luck again with Isner not playing to his potential but every GB player played his solid part and proved an inspiration to the next. It's also worth noting Leon Smith's exemplary captaincy, his great success and the fact that his tennis background is a relatively modest one. Why do we need these massively expensive high flyers jetting in from Toronto or San Francisco at vast expense to run our game?

Well said, EddieE.

I am a fan of Jim Courrier, as a player and as a commentator. But thought he has major problems as a Davis Cup captain. Unlike Leon who, as you say, seems to effortlessly manage to get the best people around him, all pulling for him. Hats off to that man.

And, yes, the jury is very much still out on some of our big-money foreign imports (although I have no problem with foreign personnel, the world's a small place nowadays).

But still think it an absolute disgrace that Chris Kermode was not even asked to interview for the LTA big boss position.

You heard it here first.

www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-2987390/Glasgow-hold-talks-LTA-hosting-Great-Britain-s-Davis-Cup-quarter-final-tie-against-France.html

I imagine most of the players, with the possible exception of Ward perhaps, would prefer to play the French on grass.

GB move up 1 place to no. 10 in the new Davis Cup rankings - the first time we have been in the top 10 since the DC rankings began in 2001!

We were ranked as low as 45 just 3 years ago in Feb 2012!

Fantastic tie, brilliant atmosphere,

but my thoughts on taking it back to the Emirates?

the Emirates wasn't big enough for this tie,

never mind the quarter-finals against France, catering was shocking and transport left an awful lot to be desired, I stood for over an hour in the pouring rain along with many other people waiting for a train back to the centre of Glasgow

Maybe that's the secret weapon so the French supporters stay at home wink

The catering was rubbish I asked an official with LTA t-shirt on if there was catering inside the arena to be told yes when in fact all the catering was in the foyer choice of crisps sandwiches fruit pot is not exactly what most people were looking for. There is a café downstairs but I couldn't see how to get to it unless going out of arena! As regards transport there were frequent buses no 2 and 61 running past Celtic park took 15mins to ARGYLE street you should have taken that!

I think Emirates could be sold out twice over for the next tie and if in Scotland it will be back there

Really strange, scottie. Re the catering, that is . . .

Because everyone knows that catering is a real licence to print money, and with a captive audience there, hungry, thirsty and not wanting to go wandering off too far, you've got an absolute cash cow opportunity.

NB I though the catering was pretty poor at the Sutton High Performance Academy too. And - as said before - that of the NTC was also pretty desperate.

Unlike Glasgow, these are actual tennis centres, catering to top athletes. And yet you've got a few limp sandwiches, plates of pasta with white gunky stuff on it, and endless biscuits, crisps, 'energy bars' (healthy? I think not !!!). Nothing of any real nutritional worth.
