Because the UK is currently one constitutional nation and is recognised as that one nation in international tennis. and the LTA is the overall governing body just now with Tennis Scotland a constituent part.

Post independence, no doubt a separate Scottish tennis authority, funded by Scotland, called Tennis Scotland or whatever would be set up.

Give me strength !

Of course it does, it's part of Great Britain. The fact that Scotland may or may have voted for independence today does not mean that they and all their institutions should have been completely self sufficient for the last 300 odd years of Union.

As for having drawn the USA, part of me thinks great we know we can beat them but another part of me is somewhat concerned that in a home tie with our delightful media pack watching the pressure of an almost expected win against a team still seeded significantly higher may be a problem.

BiS I'd love it if Leon went with a clay curve-ball and I agree it would be a great psychological boost against what is clearly quite a fragile American team - they are almost as touchy as we are about their lack of strength and depth - but the climate and time of year probably won't allow it. So I'll eagerly await what Leon and the team do choose to do to pysch out the opposition

His right to express a view. Suspect his sponsors are holding their head in their hands.
If they go independent, Scots tennis will have to rely on Scots funding. Suspect this may be a rather minor consideration in people's voting intentions....

you'll need strength if it turns out that Andy's 2.something million twitter followers turn out to be the deciding factor in this referendum and both countries go on to suffer financially (as Andy seems to be keen for Scotland to benefit financially from a Yes vote) as well as suffering in many other ways !

This is not the thread in which to discuss the Scottish question - there is a thread in the Chat section for that. Please keep on topic.

Coventry, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow - I think have been used recently for home indoor fixtures.

Glasgow ?  Can't play it outside Great Britain  wink

On a serious note Andy's surprising announcement that he supports Scottish Independence must make it at least possible that in the event of "Yes" winning that he will decline to play Davis Cup for GB again, same goes for Jamie Murray and Colin Fleming both of whom have also said they support Independence.

Is it only me ? I'm stunned that Andy has the cheek to big up Scottish independence when he has been funded by the lta all his tennis playing life and is probably still funded (dont they pay for some of his staff?),he lives in London and also his partner is English ! Talk about having your cake and eating it !!!!!

I am a passionate unionist and if Scotland decides that they want Independence I will be incredibly sad. I will go as far to say I would consider the worst political event of my lifetime and I doubt I will be able to hold back the tears. So yes I am deeply disappointed with Andy's support for independence but it is his choice and I respect his right to make it.

A bit disappointing that I've had to read through independence chat on this thread but ANYWAY back on topic:

To be honest I think Andy will play, he's always said one of his ambitions is to have GB lift thenDavis Cup and 99% of fans will still support him anyway. It'll either be Kyle or Wardy but I'd probably go with and Wardy just cos of what happened last year.

Why should expend matter, it'd surely have cost more for the Americans to put it where they did last year?!

I can't wait now, will definitely go no matter where it is, I'm miles away from anywhere in North Yorkshire I suppose!

OK, OK, I apologised on my part, but there is a quite clear timeline as to what happened here :

Davis Cup discussion - Andy's Davis Cup future depending on independence vote - What Andy has been saying himself re independence. Such diversions happen on forums ( even with a thread on the subject part of the discussion evolved into ) and Madeline pointed it out.

We will try really hard not to have any independent vote for at least another 50 years so as not to leave anyone disappointed in their tennis reading.

And yes, I am easily wound up at the moment.

So sorry again, Madeline, sorry Jaffa, sorry....

Now Davis Cup :)

I agree that Andy is extremely likely to.play, but connected to that I think that rules out clay, because of the imminent Indian Wells and Miami Masters tournaments. So I think that it will be hard court due to these factors rather than any consideration of the expense of indoor clay.

James would to me clearly be the second singles player if the tie was now, but it is many months away so things will be much clearer then, with yes Kyle's progress looking to be the most relevant factor.

I can't believe this thread has turned into a Scottish independence vote thread when we've already got a thread specifically for that. Madeleine tried her best last time a thread was 'hijacked' by it, too!

I've got nothing against Scottish independence being discussed on the forum (obviously not - I've engaged in the discussion in the other thread and I've found the discussion both interesting and very civilised) but it shouldn't be taking over this thread too. Unfortunately, we can't move individual posts between threads as is possible on some forums.

I really don't see the problem. The discussions in this thread have related to how the referendum result might impact on this Davis Cup tie.

Not really - it might have affected DC ties from 2016 onwards but it shouldn't have affected this one whatever the result.

Well Said RJA I can't believe the hysteria on here that GB 1 player has said he wanted independence. Andy is his own man so I will watch with interest his continuing/or not with the Davis Cup

Andy already said yesterday, ahead of the vote, that he was going to play for GB next March, whichever way the vote went. So, back to the DC tie now. . .
