This is not going to end well. Dom and Jamie are not a good fit together and are a scratch pairing against the best pair in the world who have played together a gazillion times. Would have preferred Colin and Jonny to be playing.
Interesting thought.
I think on current form this year it was fair that Jamie and Dom were picked.
But doubles definitely is more than just picking two in form players and sticking them together. It very much is about established teams.
Looking to the future, I think it is vital that we have a pairing that do play together all the time. Fleming/Marray are definitely looking to push into the top 50 this year and I'd like to see them pushing for the place. I'm also still hoping that the Skupski's can push on, however have seemed to hit a bit of a wall at the moment
Although in saying all that, we are against the Bryan brothers here and Dom/Jamie would have a much easier time against any other pair in the world probably...
Presumably Leon is not unaware that you need to try and assess who is likely to fit well as partnerships as well as considering rankings ( it's an all round decision, and while a big factor, there has to be more to selection than rankings, especially in doubles ) and still went for Dom and Jamie as I would have done.
I knew a bit, but didn't really realise how different Dom's regular partner Mergea is from Jamie. Must be quite difficult to adapt. Jonny or Colin or both together might have done better than Dom with Jamie, but I'm very much saying it now. As I said, I was quite happy with Jamie and Dom. I reckon it was a tough selection choice.
On the other hand, says he who hadn't been watching recently, the boys seem to be getting it together more.
Looking at Isner yesterday, including his physical/mental fatigue and his poor ground game, Andy should have all of his numbers. *crosses fingers and touches wood*.
Always reiterating the importance of developing all British pairs - so let's hope that Dom & Jamie play more regularly because if can run the Bryan's that close are certainly one of best doubles pairs in the world .

Fair point : the real solution is any of the top 4 ranked players playing together regularly on tour with a good understanding
I hate playing scratch pairs in our Aegon 2 county tier team let alone at this level . But doing ok and let's hope they get more matches together on tour before the french tie in July - assuming of course we get there !

Thing is how do you ? / do you ? incentivise the top Brits to play together.
The world is their oyster for partners and both Jamie and Dom say are in steady partnerships ( Jamie after earlier quite a period searching for a new fit and Dom with one that has fitted very quickly ) that have started the year well.
They have their overall doubles careers to consider, so while it's great to do well at Davis Cup, they preumably would need convinced that they would do very well year round on the circuit.
But, yes, to increasingly gel like this, within the course of their first match together since juniors, against only the Bryans makes one wonder.
