Girls: Copa Universidad Galileo, Guatemala, hard - Grade 4 (Week 11)

Anna Brogan has dropped back to a G4 as she continues to rebuild following a lengthy absence last year. So far so good here, though an ex top 100 player bars her path to the final

R1 (L32)

(3) Anna Brogan (GBR) d. Mishelle Cordero Lopez (GUA) 6-0 6-2

R2

(3) Anna Brogan (GBR) d. Arisha Ladhani (CAN) 6-1 6-2

QF

(3) Anna Brogan (GBR) d. Juliana Valero (COL) 6-1 6-1

SF

(1/WC) Madison Bourguignon (USA) v (3) Anna Brogan (GBR)

Doubles Final

(1) Bourguignon/Frenkel (USA) v (2) Brogan/De Beer (GBR/MRI)

She didn't play between Wimbledon and December, but I don't know the reason.  The singles was creditably close but the American had too much beef at the end. However Anna came away with her first ITF title in the doubles

SF

(1/WC) Madison Bourguignon (USA) d. (3) Anna Brogan (GBR) 6-0 5-7 7-6(4)

Doubles Final

 (2) Brogan/De Beer (GBR/MRI) d. (1) Bourguignon/Frenkel (USA) 6-3 6-3

She moved to Bath about 18months ago I believe, but didn't stay long and then moved abroad - I think to the States but not 100% certain on that.  Don't know the reason for the move or whether she's been injured but it may be that in a new set up she's been making major changes to her game which could explain the lack of competition.  IMO she'd started to hit a bit of a wall before her absence.  Hopefully climbing over it now.

Poor girl - my aunt had shingles a couple of years ago and found it a most unpleasant disease.  Glad she's over it, my aunt suffered for a rather longer period of time.

Might have also explained the worse than expected results leading in to that period. Hope she's healthy and ok now.
